Window Suite F309 - Golden Princess

We are booked in this cabin on the Golden for next summer in Alaska. It is near impossible to find pictures or the cabin layout of these window suite cabins. Since there are only seven on the ship, and they are fairly new to Princess, I am assuming that they are all alike (except for the one that is handicap accessible).

Does anyone have photos of one of these cabins on the Golden? Anyone staying in one that might be able to post a few photos for all to see?

I appreciate any assistance. This is our first suite and we are looking forward to it. Thanks in advance to everyone!

I was in this cabin June 4-11....the cabin smelled of stale smoke

I have pictures, I will upload later today.....the BEST part of this cabin was the jacuzzi tub.....the worst part was the stinky stale smokey odor and the cabin steward was the WORST I have had in over 22 cruises

I was in F 301 May 14 - 21 and I thought the steward, Lawrence, was one of the better ones that I have had over many cruises. There was no smell of smoke in the suite or the corridor outside.

F 301 is slightly smaller than the others with a different layout so my photos won't help you (not that I know how to post them here) but in general you enter the suite to a large marble floored lobby with all the closets and the door to the bathroom, then you go through to the sitting area and turn a corner to the bed. I didn't particularly care about the jacuzzi tub (OK if you like them) but I did love the large, glass walled shower.

Very spacious, very well lit, clean simple lines, pale wood and golden marble, huge bed with millions of pillows. I loved it, and being near the water line gave dramatic views of the waves swooshing past.

When we were booking our Hawaiian cruise at the last minute, there were just obstructed OVs and Window Suites left. As we usually get insides, we booked the OV (which turned out to have a great view anyway). I did look at the deck plan and we decided we were glad not to consider the WS ones at all as they're right in the same area as the cigar lounge. And also by the casino, which also allows smoking, even under next year's restrictions.

We did walk around that area once while onboard and it was so stinky from the tobacco smell. As the cigar lounge will still be operating even after the smoking restrictions are enacted, I can't see this smell going away.

We were just on the Caribbean Princess in a WS room and had the same experience. The room smelled of stale smoke even though the steward denied that anyone smoked in there before us or that anyone on either side were smoking. But one time we saw a dirty ashtray sitting below his cleaning cart, so I think we had smoking neighbors. The smell wasn't cigars, so it wasn't from the cigar bar. I think people smoke in these rooms because they don't have a balcony and the smell stays in the carpet, furniture, and drapes.

And our cabin steward wasn't very good. He didn't resupply our bathroom toiletries unless asked and he threw away our formal night canapes before we ate them. When asked if he threw them away, he said "yes" but offered no apology and told us to just call room service and try to get some more. I expected really good service in a suite after reading on CC that they put the best stewards in suites. Not so!

The cigar bar doors were closed on the starboard side my entire cruise, the main hall to the princess theater, (it use to be open and very stinky on the two othercruises on the golden)...I had to go to the cigar bar to get ice, since my room steward was not great about filling my ice bucket twice a day and my refrigerator did not work from day 1 to day 4 in the late PM even tough I complain to my steward, everyday, and he YELLED at me, and then I complained to the pursers desk for two days... the window suites have their own private hallway and it does not stink...only the cabins where smokers previously occupied it....like my cabin :(

We are booked in F311 on the Golden to Alaska next summer. It was less $$ than the BB balcony I would usually book so I was happy to get the suite perks. Thank you for sharing your experience and your pictures. It seems that everyone who has ACTUALLY stayed in these cabins says they are quiet and not affected by cigar smoke. The stale smoke in your cabin is awful but something that could happen in any cabin on the ship. I do hope that will be better after the new no smoking policy goes into effect. It sounds like F309 need deep cleaning, did they offer to do that when you complained about the smell?

We have booked Window Suites on three cruises and never have smelled a bit of smoke in the cabin or in the passageway. We both are non-smokers and easily pick up any hint of smoke.

Certainly all experiences are different, but from ours there is no smoke aroma problem in the WS.

We had a window suite on a coastal from LA to Vancouver and absolutely love it. No stale smoke smell.

Did think we'd miss the balcony, but being at wave level was awesome!

All the suite perks were great. Especially loved breakfast in Sabatini's.

Just had a WS on a cruise that ended yesterday. The day we arrived I could tell smokers had used the room - I have allergies & a sensitive nose. I could smell the stale smoky smell in the carpeting & fabric in the cabin, but I will say that as the week went on the smell dissipated. I don't believe the smell came from the cigar bar as the WS hallway smelled fine.

Odor aside, I would book another WS in a minute. I loved just lying on my bed, looking at all the space around me, something I'm not used to when cruising. And the suite perks made it worthwhile, especially since on my cruise the WS rate was on a par with a mini-suite which we had originally booked. I loved the double sinks, too.

Just Sabatini's breakfast, free internet, complimentary laundry & those addicting chocolate tuxedo strawberries made it worth booking!

Here are the picture of F309:
Thanks for the photos. It looks like Princess added 220V European Schuko sockets in addition to the 120V North American NEMA sockets when they added the Window Suites. With fewer outlets an extension cord must be needed. Also, is there a wall mounted hair dryer?

I also have allergies and the smoke odor made my nose run and my eyes puff up every morning after spending 7-8 hr in my WS cabin...the odor never went away. I used all of two small spray cans of OUST and the entire bottle of "linen mist" and it did not help at all and the evening before I was to disembark, I had a few NEW friends over to my cabin to finish up my tuxedo strawberries and COLD soda pop (since the fridge was now fixed) and they all could smell the smoke as soon as they walked in the room.

MissJanet,

I want to thank you so much for posting back in March about switching from the mini to the WS cabin. After reading it, we did some quick research and did the very same thing. Boy, are we happy with that decision!! Definitely didn't miss the balcony on that chilly cruise. And the perks were fabulous - we used every one of them except afternoon tea in the suite. The only negatives were the smoke smell (which could happen in any cabin, but it was the first time for us) and the not-up-to-par cabin steward. Since you were on the cruise right after us, how was your service from the steward?

Hi Go-Bucks,

I remember when Princess had the price reduction on the window suites & we switched from the mini (after seeing the perks). I am so glad we made the switch - best cabin I've ever experienced (or am likely to) even with the smoke smell. Only wish I'd thought of bringing some sort of deodorizer because my sinus problems (caused by the smoke allergy) made me dizzy. But I'm still glad I took that room - could have been bothered by the smoke smell in any cabin anyway & NOT had those fabulous perks.

So glad you enjoyed the cabin - as far as the room steward, we had a man named Rolan. Is that who you had? He was okay, not outstanding, I have to admit. Once I asked for ice because I thought he was bringing around a cooler filled with ice (as he cleaned his cabins) like I've seen on other cruise lines & it would be a simple task. Turned out he had to take my cooler out of our area to another hallway to fill it up - seems like a complicated procedure & that surprised me.

Other than that, I can't recall him doing anything in particular good or bad for us. We were in F309 - which cabin did you have? I believe the room steward on one of the May sailings was a different man, not Rolan.

We didn't go in any of these cabins, but on our cruise, the smell in the hallway was definitely from the cigar lounge and casino. Fortunately, we have never entered a cabin on any of our cruises to find a leftover smell from a smoker (knock on wood), but we can tell which cabins have smokers (at least ones smoking inside) just by walking by in the hallway. I can only imagine this smell by the WS area will just increase after the new smoking restrictions go in place, as the cigar lounge will become more popular for smokers.
