Hi! Wondering if anyone has sailed recently on the Victory. Looking for some recent reviews/reports. Checked the review section and the only recent ones are extremely negative. For me, any cruise is a good cruise, but, some are better than others. Looking for input on food, cleanliness, shows...the usual suspects. TIA :cool::cool:

I was on Victory in December (before the recent drydock) and it was great - should be even better now with the additions. Booked another cruise on her this fall!

Victory was my first carnival cruise, back in February 2015 - so not very recent and certainly not before drydock. To be honest, it made me cast off cruising. I made up my mind that cruising was not for me. Thankfully I chatted with a PVP who gave me some insight into why I wasn’t pleased, mainly short cruise out of Miami attracts a certain clientele. I felt that the lines were long for everything, but mainly food and the ship itself needed some TLC but some of the passengers were just awful...it’s really difficult to put my finger on why.

2 years later I did the liberty and had a much better experience. In about a month (oh wow, exactly a month) I’ll be on the conquest.

I would give Victory another chance, especially after dry dock, but I would be a little skeptical.

we were on the week before easter. We actually sailed her 10 years ago when we got married onboard....

It was nice. It's a good ship layout. has the guy's burgers, blue iguana...red frog, etc, etc. it's a big little ship I think. The kinds had fun. Nice pool areas. We love the aft pool bar, though they're all pretty nice. We had the kids this time so we didn't get to see the shows, but i'm sure they were about as good as they ever are. The MDR was pretty good. Food was ok, nothing like "wow! we get that?" but the servers were great and remembered our names and took great care of the kids. Buffet was ok, they need a better salad bar though.

overall we like Victory a lot. I couldn't imagine going on it and not having a good time. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

edit: also, camp ocean was cool for the kids, and out 1 1/2 year old as well when needed. Don't miss the rock and roll music late nights at the casino bar. Those guys are good and i enjoyed going down and having a few drinks and listening to the music and watching people stroll by all dressed up for late dinners and going dancing.

We were on the Victory in February a couple weeks after the drydock.

Overall we liked the ship, but there were some negatives based on the design. The buffet area was not laid out very well, leading to one long line to access the various offerings. The galley being placed between the two dinning rooms made it a pain to get to the aft dinning room if that is where you are assigned. There are also no specialty restaurants, no steakhouse, JiJi, Capitano, etc. On short cruises this would not be an issue, but ours was a 10 day and it would have been nice to have some more options.

The good parts, The refurbished cabins were very nice, Guy's, Blue Iguana and Seafood Shack were great. The crew was FANTASTIC and the various activities and shows were good. Capacity is a little limited for the Comedy show, especially the "Adult" offering, but manageable.

You can read both my reviews on the Victory in my tagline from 2011 and 2017. I'd go again in a heartbeat - and we went before the latest upgrade.

I think most of these bad reviews are from people who aren't like me - I think a vacation is what you make of it. My goodness you're on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean with someone serving you drinks and doing the cooking and cleaning!!! What the heck can be bad about that?!!

Thinking about booking a last minute cruise...6-10 August! I prefer to dine in the later dining slot (8pm) but I'm afraid that booking this late means I'll be assigned YTD by default. Has anyone had success checking with the maitre'd on embarkation day and getting YTD changed to assigned seating/time slot? BTW, who is the maitre'd on Victory right now? And who is the CD?

It's an old clunker.

According to a recent post by John Heald on Facebook, Late assigned dining is the least requested, so you should be OK. YTD is the most requested and first to reach capacity.

I cannot for the life of me remember the CD's name. I want to say Felipe but I'm not sure that's correct. He was good. He always ended his announcements with "Chow for now" and a Woo-hoo. When we were disembarking, he was talking to guests as we got of the ship. My daughter told him "chow for now" and he laughed.

Yeah, it's been my experience as well that late-seating is not as well attended as earl-seating or YTD. Thanks for the response!

Good to know, he sounds fun!

We were on the Victory last week and sailed in our first suite (#7238). We had a great time. Zero issues. If you have any specific questions let me know.

Is Sirens Pool still an adults-only pool? Did you hang out in the Serenity area and if so were there chair hogs? Were the Serenity hot tubs crowded?

Yeah, still adults only. Surprised we didn't see more kids trying to get away with it. Then again, there 2 other pools anyway.
