Good Morning, Coolers,

Have been looking into just exactly where we're going on our Sept. TA on the Spirit. I don't know anything about Falmouth (Jeff, can you suggest?) but there seems to be an excursion to St. Ives. That could work for me as home to Bernard Leach and Barb Hepworth...also Tate outpost.....Any one know any of this area?

Have a good day, everyone..

Linda

Hi Linda,

I posted here a long time ago about how lucky I was as a very young chap meeting Barbara Hepworth and sadly I didn't know at the time it was her - but perhaps it was lucky as I would have been tongue tied. She had an exhibition at the Tate in around 1968 or so and I went along and started to stroke and touch her sculptures. A guard pounced on me and berated me for touching the exhibits and at that moment this very small dark lady jumped out of the shadows and started shouting at the guard telling him that stroking the sculptures was what it was all about. He creeped away sheepishly and I was left with the lady who I chatted to for nearly an hour. She asked about my art - I was studying history of art and more specifically 19thC French Art and my total failure and frustration with the hand never producing what my mind wished and she was very encouraging and told me to keep at it. We chatted about the tenuous links between impressionisms and her work and she was animated and engaging. I think she knew that I had no clue who she was and perhaps that was liberating. It was only some time later that I realised it was BH. Some time ago her museum/gallery was seeking information from people that had met her and I told them this story which I understand is a part of the exhibition. I've been lucky to meet a few artists in my time .... mostly now dead. I was given a young artists award by Augustus John and met Bernard Buffet in Nice, met Jasper Johns when he exhibited at Whitechapel when he was unknown in the UK .... and we actually swapped sketches but I have not seen the one I kept for many years. I use to drink with Francis Bacon and Lucien Freud in a place called the Colony Room in Soho .... It is a real shame that none of their talent rubbed off on me.

We have a beach house in the next county to Cornwall so know the area well. To be honest it is more a place to relax than fill with visits but if you have some idea of what you seek I'm more than happy to suggest but I warn that it is more a place to wander and eat than content intensive.

Good morning friends:).........I am feeling pretty well today and not even taking any pain meds:)......I am going to call

the Dr on Monday and see if he will say I can go back to work next week. There is really no reason for me to sit around

here.........the incision is healing. I guess they err on the side of caution when it is surgery (no matter how small) but I

work from a desk and if I feel sore I can always come home. Will see what the Dr says.

Go Jags:D

Mysty, sorry about the family health issues.........hope everything/everyone will be ok.

Thanks M ......

I cannot emphasise how lovely it is that you are back at the bar. It somehow felt a a little more empty and quieter in your absence and your friends often looked at your personal stool and felt your absence. Hopefully your chats here will distract you a little and although not particularly helpful, what will be will be whatever you suffer whilst waiting and hoping for decent outcomes. So get your mind off of things over which you have no control and try and be distracted and happy. It is a place were virtual friends become real friends and who are all rooting for you and your family.

Thanks J! And now I am in tears of appreciation for your very kind words and thoughts! The Cooler and it's magnificent denizens are the very best of distractions and the most wonderful source of entertainment. Such an important part of my life now that I would be a little lost without the camaraderie. Thank you all for that!

OH WOW! OMG!

I'm not sure if the ohwow and omg are for that WONDERFUL story or that wonderful risotto and bread! So many good things to absorb!

I'm blown away by your fortunate encounters with the pantheon of artistic gods that you mention. "oh wow" just isn't enough! Anyway, I think you're right in the "let the day take you" kind of advice....although I would love to see something of Bernard Leach's in the flesh, so to speak!

I'm all for a good stroll, with something yummy either at the end or in between! Maybe we should just stay in Falmouth....?Any good pubs, food markets (John's favorite thing to do is covet food porn in person!) things that we shouldn't miss that you would suggest? Still loads of time for all of that!

I have no idea of what John is cooking up for tonight's supper. It'll be a suprise, as I'm only the "go fer" and dish washer!

So very glad Lois is feeling good. Go gently with that recoup!

Have a good day, Coolers!

Linda

OK J! Distractions are marvelous. That dude with the piercing gaze is a tad frightening though! :) His head seems to be disembodied because his sweater matches the seat covers. It did get my imagination moving in a different direction though so points for that! :)

Linda,

Apart from the art you might consider Trebah Gardens and perhaps have lunch at The Shack and have a stack to share. I believe they still offer this,at lunch as well as the evening.

Be still, my heart! "The Stack" looks fabulous! We may just stay in Falmouth!

Thank you, Jeff!

........ not much reason to venture further to be honest. Personally if you have access to decent seafood in normal life I would seek out some freshly fried fish and chips .........;:)

Mysty - Your mention of hope coupled with fear rang true with me. I remember those feelings well! We have been incredibly lucky. The past ten years have been superb despite those emotions, and I hope you and your family can experience the same sense of enthusiasm and well being that I have been so fortunate to feel. My thoughts are with you all. V

Just nabbed two BA F tickets to Singapore for early 2019 and now just hoping that in two or three weeks a couple of redemptions show up for the return. Used a lovely little app which you enter the BA seats you want and it checks every 30 minutes for you and sends you an email when the seats pop up! All for £3 monthly .....

Thanks M. Something to do .....; :)

I just made the mistake of trying to be helpful to someone on the SB board ...... what a mistake that was. :(

It is hardly surprising that so many people simply can't be bothered to help others. Information and "nous" is so valuable but why bother? It brings into contrast how friendly the Cooler is. :)

I can speak from experience.....not all boards are as friendly and kind as this one! It's a real breath of fresh air!

Even on the other threads of this board, the tone is so much more civil. All boards are NOT created equal! Love it over here!

Have a good weekend, all,

Linda
