RCCL new Diamond Lounge Policy?

Myself and Milwaukee eight have had a few posts between us good and bad and as i was responding to one of his posts I'm sure he would understand the meaning of the hotel.

We have a brilliant relationship with our TA and the photo of us reopening our local branch shows the high esteem between us which also was answering one of your posts.

We were on the Jewel back in November and they opened the Vortex, so not sure why they wouldn't do the same on the Serenade.

On Serenade now and was on last cruise. They have now opened up part of Vortex for Diamond. Not sure what happened to the “policy”. We are D+ so have been going to Concierge Lounge. It’s crowded as well.

It's intriguing why Diamond members so badly want to be around other Diamond members. There is lounges all over the ship with plenty of seating and no lines at the bars.

The longer the cruise the more likely you are to get a bunch of Diamond and above.

I never understood why people want to eat finger food right before dinner?

Then maybe just hanging out with the cool kids is the draw!?

Oh, and people seem to like just about anything that is "exclusive" and especially anything that "free". And when it's free AND exclusive... OMG!!!!

Why would you even think Diamonds should board before Suite Guests?

 

Personally, I believe the ongoing points system should be rated on $ spent for cabin, any dollars spent onboard (Speciality Dining, Casino, Spa, Ships Tours, Park West) and $ spent on Royal Excursions. Set a yearly minimum and if not reached, drop peoples points and Status back each year.

Most of the time. We are still Diamond and soon to be D+. But yes, Suites should board before Diamond’s.

And why not measure loyalty to Royal by dollars spent or mix the two together like many other loyalty programs are moving too.

Many airlines used to be miles or segments only. They then recognized that those that bought more expensive fares were of value to them, more so than many of the low fare flyers. So they began to reward those that spend a lot more $$$ on their fares. Why shouldn’t Royal reward those that spend the most dollars with them over a year period.

I have to disagree… Any common analyst can tell you that there will be some sort of leveling off point where the people in the Uber hire statuses start not being able to cruise anymore Aka dying off. Although I can’t tell you exactly when that will be and/or how many people that will involve… Rest assured l, it will happen.

 

I, myself, see the future aboard their ships as bright. And as a D member who is closer to D+ versus the latter… All before the age of 33 (not because of my parents, no) I know that this tipping aka leveling point will happen during my cruising lifetime. I think sooner rather than later actually. We are always, by far, the youngest people in any lounge, and get funny looks, which is quite amusing to us lol. (Besides people who are with their parents)

Best part is meeting and talking to all the fine folks that share at least one love with me....cruising! [emoji3][emoji3]

Yep but so are others. We often find it difficult to find Suites available on cruises/ships/dates we would like to cruise.

I have no ill feelings to P’s who may or may not board before Suite Guests. 700 pts is significant and well earned. Actually, we seldom show up in time to board early enough to enjoy the boarding perk. We do use the Suites/Pinnacle checkin Line.

We do wear our Gold Cards on a lanyard but mainly for convenience in using the Drink Package. I try to keep the card turned towards me.

We also get ‘weird’ looks, comments and questions in the Lounge. I am 39 and I always get asked by other D members if I work for Royal (because how else would I be in the lounge etc). Sometimes people are quite intrusive!

My answer is standard for curious D lounge guests and anyone in this thread asking why I am in the lounge - not for the canapés, I am there for the free drinks!

Everything is pointing towards Royal kicking Diamonds out of the Diamond Lounge and requiring that they use the drink vouchers. Changing the name to Diamond Plus Lounge and kicking the pluses out of the Concierge Lounge.

 

There are just way to many Diamonds now.

 

I think they might increase the vouchers from 3 to unlimited during the Happy Hours???

This wouldn't bother me in the least bit, Actually on the Liberty I liked hanging out in the Viking Crown area outside of the Diamond Lounge, more room, especially if you are in a group!

Yes, I think Tenerife and the other Canary Islands I have visited look a like Hawaii and I think the weather is fairly similar, too. I was driving on our trip to Tenerife, so I wasn't taking photos, but a lot of the caldera of El Tiede look like Volcano's national park with lava piles. Plus, the top of the volcanos are quite high, like Hawaii. I will never forget spending the morning before sunrise on Haleakala watching the Orionid Meteor shower. Amazing. Then on the bike ride down, going thru a cloud and getting snowed on.

Good points. At this time, I can't recall the type of drink. Equally good point that he may have had a package, and I didn't think of that.

 

However, the D+ and Ps we were with did not need to give cards. By the second day, the bartenders knew us and we didn't even need to show our cards.

 

I can't explain the preferential treatment. I went in assuming I would have to use the vouchers.

This past oasis cruise I preferred to go down to the overflow lounge at blaze on 4. Never crowded and had great servers. It was less hectic than the suite lounge at happy hour and made some great friends. Forget the diamond lounge on 11 it was very crowded for those two weeks. By 4pm it was pretty packed.

But what about the huge profit margin they would make if the sold the same booze. I know many look at it as they are only losing x on the FREE drinks but it also may be looked as losing y (the mark up).

I would just stick to gs or better on oasis class and drink in the sl if there were no diamond hour.

Probably the reason why it costs royal next to nothing for the new Amsterdam vodka. I wonder how much a bottle of amsterdam costs. Considering Kirkland vodka is $12 for 1.75 litres. Amsterdam vodka must be a lot cheaper if royal is using it.

Haha I couldn’t agree more about loving to meet new and interesting people on each and every cruise!

I always get the drink package, so it’s not about free booze for us. The atmospheres and the mingling [emoji847]

But yes, we usually get the “unicorn” stare and whispers. 🤭

That is the best thing about being the boss.:')
