Gift recommendation

As a guy, i'm totally and completely terrible at this so i'm seeking advice:

My female neighbor acquaintance unexpectedly gave me $10 in Bahamas money (really cool looking colorful bills) upon learning I was going on my cruise which was very nice of her. She said get to a drink with it while in Nassau or Freeport, but I told her that when I visit Atlantis, i'm going to put it in a slot machine and if it wins big bucks she gets the prize. :)

It was such a nice gesture from her that I think it would only be appropriate to bring something back as a little gift in return. We're just casual neighbors who engage in small talk when we see each other so what's an appropriate gift to give that would be considered neutral and not misread as anything more? I'm thinking it would be rude not to return the kind gesture, yet at the same time I don't want to give out any wrong impressions either! Advice?

Find out what is the "thing" from the Bahamas....something neutral, that costs about $10 or so....or, if you actually win something, split it with her!

Pretty sure the casino machines only take USD.....at least, that's all they accepted when we were there!

Sounds like she's just a friend, so get whatever you'd give a friend!

Thanks. I just Googled what Bahamas are famous for and found out "rum cake". Perfect neutral gift! I'm picking that up.

Well, she's not even a friend...more just an acquaintance I just chat with for a few minutes whenever I see her outside. So that was my dilemma...what to give to someone who's in between acquaintance and friend. I was a bit thrown when she offered the Bahamas money to me, and graciously accepted it, but at the same time, don't want to give out wrong impressions in return. The rum cake seems like a perfect little "thank you" without being misconstrued as anything more.

Totally thought this was going to be one of those steward gift threads.

Haven’t been to the Bahamas yet. Going next summer. Is there any kind of Bahamas alcohol for about 10 bucks you could bring back?

Ha, no the stewards only get cash from me as I know that's what they want.

Alcohol is another good idea. Small bottle of rum perhaps?

I hate to be a wet blanket, but, I believe taking fruit, and certain "food stuffs" aren't allowed back into the US. I may be wrong, so please check this out before you go. ;)

Rum cakes and alcohol are perfectly fine to bring back. Both good ideas, OP.

I would suggest rum cake. So moist mmmm. You can buy on amazon but cheaper in Caribbean. She might not like mango.... original rum cake or the chocolate one.....what woman hates chocolate? This woman vote is cake. But more expensive in airports

Thanks to the last 2 replies. Now that I think about it, it's much more logical to go with the rum cake over rum. I don't even know if she drinks and my whole original query was to keep it neutral and safe and the rum cake ticks all boxes. So i'll stick to that as the gift. Thanks all. These boards are such a great help!!

The mango rum i'll just pick up for myself haha. ;p
