Hi

New to cruising. Booked it ages ago and now it is closer seems a little daunting not really knowing so much stuff.

There will be 4 of us, including 1 child.

We are taking the Norwiegen Gem from NY to Bahamas.

Main questions are this

Can anyone recommend tours/ beach activities for Nassau rage aren’t as expensive as the NCL ones?

Upon return to NY we don’t fly home til 6pm so don’t want to head straight to the airport. Ideas on what we can do for a few hours considering we will have our luggage ?

Thanks.

Welcome to cruise critic! It takes a while to figure out how to locate all the information on the various boards, but here are three that you should check out. They can be reached through the main menu board (https://boards.cruisecritic.com/) or use the direct links below:

Norwegian Cruise Line: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=107 is dedicated to all things NCL.

Bahamas Ports of Call: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58

East Coast Departures (for NYC): https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=415

Have a great cruise!

Do you want to actually TOUR Nassau, or do you just want a beach day? There are plenty of places to go to the beach on your own...some are totally free, some have a small fee....depending if you want a beach, or a beach with a pool. Of course, there is a small fee on "free" beaches for loungers/umbrellas...just like anywhere

Lordy no! Should have been more specific.

8 year old will moan if dragged to places of interest.

Am thinking Beachy excursion perhaps with snorkelling

Repost your question on the Other Caribbean ports sub forum. Or you can do a search in that sub-forum on Nassau.

You should also check if there is a roll call for your cruise, which will let you message with other folks on you exact cruise. Frequently people on the roll call have been to the more popular ports previously and can be a great source of more specific information.

You should also see if they have 'luggage direct', or something like it at your disembarking port. We used it in both Miami and Seattle. Basically they check your luggage with the airline directly to your final destination. Once they picked up our luggage outside the door on the last night of the cruise, the next time we saw it was on the luggage carousel here in Denver. It isn't available in all ports nor for all airlines, but if it IS available it is great. Particularly if you have a time gap before your flight and want to do something without lugging your luggage or finding temporary storage.

Have a great cruise!
