LGBT- friendly?

Hello, all. I have previously travelled extensively on RCCL and HAL, and am considering going to the big leagues for a bucket list cruise. I am wondering how tolerant of same-sex (and to a lesser degree May/December) couples Silversea and its passengers are. We've had no issues on RCCL, and little on HAL. I'm just wondering what to expect on Silversea.

In case anyone is wondering, Antarctica is the only continent I have yet to visit. Primarily looking at HAL, but thought I could make this a double bucket list adventure.

Our experience is that gay male couples are not rare on SS. Each sailing we have been on has had at least one couple and I have never noticed any difference in the attitude of crew or passengers towards the gay men. As for L B and T, I couldn't say.

It's a shame, in 2017, that this question even needs asking!

My partner and I started sailing on SS back in '05. The staff was and has been since extremely gay friendly and more than tolerant. We have met various couples, both men and women, on each cruise. I will go on to say that there was only one time when a very drunk passenger became exceedingly rude at the bar with disparaging comments not only to us, but to several straight couples, as well. All of us made appointments with the HD and subsequently this passenger was escorted off the ship at the next port. I believe I wrote about this on some other thread years ago.

You will love SS and the attention you receive.

Please look hard at both Silversea and Seabourn for an Antarctica trip. You will be able to experience actual landings on either. The Zaandam just does a "sail by" of the continent. This kind of bucket list cruise deserves an immersive experience. Wishing you both a wonderful cruise!

We’ve met several LGBT couples on our Silversea cruises. At least two of the couples were at something like 400+ days on Silversea so I think that kind of speaks for itself. Others who were on their first Silversea cruise were talking about more cruises.

My partner and I, a middle aged gay couple, have done four Silversea cruises. We have always found fellow passengers welcoming and have never experienced a problem. We are not usually the only gay couple on the ship.

I was recently on the Seabourn Quest in Antarctica and there were several gay couples on board. I'd urge you to consider taking this ship to the White Continent as it has zodiacs for landings. I doubt if the HAL ships are quite right for this sort of trip. We did the one Quest trip each year that also visits South Georgia. It was fabulous. Just as good, perhaps better, would be the Silver Cloud. Then you get to the expedition ships such as Silver Explorer which are more expensive yet offer a more intimate encounter with the penguins and seals.

The OP needs to answer but I just took it as “LGBT-friendly” which is just a hyphenated word and the “-“ was not some notation or modifier added to LGBT.

The + usually refers to the other letters which sometimes go into the acronym eg "I" for intersex. It is a way of politely acknowledging them without forgetting to include one. :)

LGBT(Q)+ is because if we keep adding initials to the acronym, the banner will have to go up and down, instead of across the street at Pride parades ;)

Much better phrasing (and actually answered the question!). Thank you, fellow Michael!
