Hi All:

First Cruise and First post

I have narrowed our choice down to a 5 night Caribbean (both from Miami) on Norwegian Dawn (4/26/19) or 7 nights on RCL Allure of Seas (4/28/19).

The wife and I are in are 50s. We are both drinkers. The drink package is a big plus IMO. We are hoping our ship choice has real good food.

Minimum cabin cat. would be ocean view.

Our cruise booking budget is about $1800 not including on board spending.

Any insights or advice is sincerely appreciated.

Below are the details.

Thank You

if you want good food, go on Princess (Royal and Regal) or Celebrity. Norwegian and RCI are not famous for their good food.

Also, Princess and Celebrity are geared towards adult travel.

Catch Sip'n'Sail promotion on Princess and you will be all set. Or look into their current promotion of 3 for free (grats and onboard credit).

Don't forget that you will have to pay a 20% gratuity on Norwegian daily on that drink package, so it's about $20 per day pp.

I've been on both ships and there is no comparison. Allure is the faaaaar superior experience. In fact, Dawn is a ship I will never sail again.

Dawn might come out less expensive in the end but again, these aren't apples-to-apples ships.

In case you didn't know, NCL will charge you service charges on those "free" perks.

Both are mediocre in the free food arenas but they do have decent specialty restaurants. However, for entertainment, Allure blows Dawn away.

Besides, it's 2 more days. That should be a no-brainer.

These are very different ships. Dawn is actually one of my favorite ships. I prefer the mid sized ships over the mega ships. But make sure you know what each offers and decide which suits you best.
