How to go about canceling a cruise due to a medical issue?

My cousin and I are scheduled to cruise in 2 weeks. Today she has received word of a serious medical condition which requires immediate treatment. She won't be permitted to travel. We both have the NCL travel insurance. Does anyone have experience with a situation like this? How do we begin the process of canceling and seeking insurance reimbursement?

I had to cancel once due to me being extremely ill. It was easy. I called them, they told me what to do. I had to get a physician to fill out a form and then file it. I was refunded fully (minus the insurance premium of course) within two weeks.

Yes, while I was still a TA it happened twice to cliants. I would suggest as long as you have NCL insurance you start with them and go from there. You will need to fill out papers that will need to be signed by the doctor, explaining the situation. the only part you will not get back is the actually cost of the insurance, but I think that goes without saying.

I booked through Casinos at Sea.

Just going through the same thing - but not for medical reasons. Call CAS and they will have to cancel the reservation first. They will give you an e mail address to begin a claim with AON (the insurance company that handles) You will receive a confirmation that you have begun the process and then they will MAIL you the actual claim form which will have to have doctor's information and signature.

WE DID have a medical situation with my mother a couple of years ago and it was handled fine. I cannot recall exactly how long it took to receive our refund...but it was not too long.

I am crossing my fingers to at least get some sort of CREDIT back as this cancellation of our B2B is NOT medical related....

Hope your cousin recovers quickly and that you can cruise again soon! My mother has been on 3-4 cruises since her issue!

Just want to keep everyone updated as to the status of my cancellation. I contacted CAS on the morning of 10/16 to cancel the cruise. Because our itinerary had been changed, they told me the excursions we paid for were being refunded and I could expect a credit to my credit card within 7-10 days. (This had nothing to do with my cancellation.) I was also told that the prepaid gratuities would be credited to my credit card due to the cancellation. I then called the travel insurance company (NCL's carrier) that afternoon. After telling the insurance company the reason for the cancellation, they told me it was covered and emailed me the forms immediately. On 10/18, my credit card has already been credited for the full cost of the internet package I had purchased. I will continue to update to let you all know how it goes.

My Mom was diagnoised with cancer and had to cancel a cruise because she needed surgery. The travel agent cancelled the cruise and she called the insurance company that sent her paperwork to file a claim. The paperwork also had to be signed by her doctor to validate her claim. It all took awhile, but she received a check for the amount of the cruise.

I also had to cancel recently due to illness to my husband and him being unable to travel. I received refund from ncl for all gratuities, excursions etc. Still waiting for Aon to process claim. All documentation was submitted 8/29/18. I will let you know how it goes.

Don't expect a check until 9/29, they will take the full 30 days they are able to. Depending on the mail, you will probably receive it 10/1.

We had to cancel twice last year due to medical reasons and both times it was handled promptly. Once the medical forms were completed, the refund check was received in a week or two.

I had used frequent flyer miles for airfare and since they were anytime miles, the airline rep put me on hold, called the hospital, confirmed IP status of my mom, who was cruising with me, and credited the miles.

The positive experience with the airline and the cruise line helped relieved some of the stress.

Pray all goes well for your family.

I had to do this myself a few years ago. It was a breeze. Called up and cancelled. Started claim with insurance company, nothing was complicated. You will need a doctor to sign it off. Insurance paid up without any further questions.

Good Luck, and a healthy recovery.

:)

call NCL, they will give you the instructions you need. They will send forms to be filled out, forms that the doctor will have to fill out as well. It may take a while but it really isn't all that difficult. Hope you will have a chance to travel with your cousin again soon.

I'm sure the payments have all been processed....... seeing this was originally posted Oct 2017.
