It was the week of the 11th of November. Can't remember exact date. The other ship arrived almost the same time as we did on the NAmsterdam, which was around 8am. Water was calm and no problems tendering in for us, so I don't think that was the problem. We wondered if it had something to do with Customs not clearing them. It was odd. The ship was there, then it was gone.

Prinsendam was supposed to join you on the 17th.

I was there the next day on K'dam. We were joined by Eurodam. The buffet was a madhouse and the beach was packed. However, a little bit of a walk down the beach, just past the bungalows, and it was much more open and pleasant.

Yes, it was Prinsendam. We was aboard her on Nov. 17, and the Captain came on the announcing system and told us we could not find a lee that was safe enough for tendering; it was not a customs thing, but a safety and ship handling thing. The Nieuw Amsterdam has the newer system with computerized dynamic positioning with the azipods under computer control to maintain position. Prinsendam did not have that, and we could not safely anchor and tender, so the Captain aborted and we went back to sea.

BTW, we have been to HMC 19 times, and made it ashore 16. The first was January 1998, about two months after it opened. We are not so happy about some of the changes, like the Pirate bar, but are OK with others. It is still a nice place to go ashore early, walk past the horse corrals to the rocks, and then back, and then claim seats at the I Could Stay Here Forever bar. After almost 20 years now, it still is nice to visit.
