Costa Rican taxi rates

Last time we were in Costa Rica, we waited until the masses had left the ship and then approached the cab stand by the dock. We met with the cabbies, and selected one to take us around his beautiful country, for an agreed upon rate. (I can't remember what we paid - hence the new thread).

He did an excellent job! He took us to the banana plantation, then to the river for a river tour (we were on the same boat as our ship mates - but for considerably less cost than the excursion rate), then he drove us around the city and told us stories. Finally we stopped at a high point for pictures of the ocean, our ship etc and then delivered us to the dock ahead of our peers. We tipped him well - our total cost equalled the excursion cost, and we were very pleased with our outing.

This time, we plan to head south to some geocaches that we would like to check and hoping we can find as good a taxi driver as we did that day 10 years ago.

What do you think a fair rate would be for such an expedition?
