Spotting Seasoned Cruisers

I took the entire thread as somewhat tongue in cheek - at least as far as my response was concerned. (And BTW Bob who posted his agreement to my post is a very seasoned cruiser).

For the record, I am a 26 year cruising veteran who has never used a lanyard, occasionally uses towel clips, stands in line when necessary for whatever I want for which the line has formed, usually pack more clothes than I need but don't see the glory in packing too light, and try to be helpful and sharing of my cruise experience as appropriately as the given thread would require. But I also try to have a little fun from time to time and try not to take any CC discussion too seriously - or too lightly, as the case may warrant.

So if there is anything anyone would like to know, if I can be of help I will try. Fire away.....:)

Amen!

Jeezus. You need to lighten up. Seems that all the cruising doesn't help. Have you tried colour therapy?

Amen! I've come to learn there are many people on CC that take themselves way too seriously. Sheesh!

Cruise ship cabins cab at times become a little 'stuffy'. An old timer told us to buy a reed diffuser at one of the local perfumeries. It works a treat! The cabin now smells like honey. ce3c40372f6c70f22a55f4647b9297d5.jpg

That's a good idea. I'm going to use it on our B2B cruise in December. I have a feeling it's gonna get rank in there after 11 days! [emoji87]

Isn't it weird that nobody uses a lanyard to carry around their credit card on land? It seems that either lanyards are overrated on a ship, or everyone is missing out on all that convenience the other 51 weeks of the year.

I have a lanyard with a small open pocket on it. In land casinos I carry my slot card, my drivers license (for id when using my slot card points for drinks/food) and a credit card for purchasing items at the gift shop.

Saves me carrying a purse or worrying about losing objects from slacks pockets when wearing slacks that have pockets. My shorts don't.

It's OK. After spending 5 days on the QV so far, I've come to realise that the pax with the towel clips are the ones who also don't stand in line for anything.

I don't understand what standing in line or not standing in line has to do with experienced or not experienced cruisers.

All you need on a ship is a card. Some people wear outfits without pockets or just like the convenience of the easy access to their card. Hundreds of people on cruise ships use them, so it's not like it's an uncommon choice and shouldn't be that difficult for people to understand why.

My post was a bit in jest, I completely understand why people want to use lanyards to carry a card. Even when they come up with a different solution for their phone.

What I really don't understand is the enormous amount of posts on this site about the most trivial subject I can think of. CC should put up a FAQ with one answer "Go to Guest Relations and they will fix your most first world problem imaginable".

My partner and I are currently on Cunard's Queen Victoria sailing around Greece and as novices (second cruise only) we like to play a game onboard called 'Spotting Seasoned Cruisers'. I won the game today with this:

I think identifying seasoned cruises vs novice cruisers could be difficult to do. People travel differently and that has nothing to do with whether it is their 1st cruise or their 20th cruise. Some bring everything they think they may need, others pack lightly and that has nothing to do with how many cruises they have taken - it is personal preference. I've seen people who have done multiple world cruises dig for their card to board the ship - I think that, too, is a personality related action rather than experience.

Anyway - my vote on the chair chips is novice or chair hog. My thought on lanyards is that they must be with a tour group on board.

The easiest way to tell is by the expression on their face when they step on board. When first time cruisers see the glitz and glamour in the atrium their whole face lights up with WOW. Experienced cruisers hardly notice it anymore.

Mi first thought was; 'shopping centre'.

You must shop at fancier places than I do

Since I suffer from "Mall Anxiety", I do my best to stay out of shopping centers - and ships whose designers seem to model their atriums after architectural monstrosities like the Stamford Town Center (which may well be the original inspiration for most newer ships).

Any shopping place which I might term "fancy" will certainly not resemble an atrium on a cruise ship.

I'm going on my 5th cruise and will be bringing towel clips for the first time. My fiance and I want them for our port excursions. We've had our towels blown around/slip down enough times that it's worth a try! We also started using lanyards after our first cruise. It's so much easier and we don't care how it looks. [emoji3] I think we will play "Spotting Seasoned Cruisers" too. Sounds fun!
