We are on the Celebrity Summit and are scheduled to port in St. Thomas on Nov. 3 and I need to know if there is anyone out there that can tell me which beaches are open. We were originally thinking about Water Island (Dinghys) or St. Johns on your own for the day. Need to know if Water island is an option. I read that Dinghys was destroyed awhile back but didn't know if they have gotten it up and running yet. We are looking to do some snorkeling if possible. I'm not a fan of the ship tours (too expensive for what you get) but being that this most likely will be the 1st ship that ports there I need to know what options we have. There is a Cat tour to Buck Island and another to Christmas Cove, are either of these good snorkeling spots?

Thanks in advance for your advice

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources tested the beach waters last week, and quite a few were safe for swimming. Too early to tell which ones will be safe on your Nov 3 visit.

Buck Island (aka Turtle Cove) and Christmas Cove are both good snorkeling spots. Water Island hasn't been cleaned up yet but that could change by Nov 3.

Honeymoon Beach, Water Island has never been on the list of waters tested by the The Department of Planning and Natural Resources in spite of repeated requests to do so. The beach was virtually destroyed by Irma. Residents are working hard to restore the island but there is no electricity, gasoline is in short supply and it is going to be slow work to get things up and running again.

The Summit will call at St. Kitts on 11/3 instead of St. Thomas per our travel agent and confirmed via phone to Celebrity.
