Shower chair

We don't need a disability type cabin but wonder if Celebrity has pull down seats or plastic chairs available for showers in the cabin.

I'm assuming the accessible cabins have fold out seats - all the photos I've seen are like that but I can't vouch for every Celebrity cabin, every ship.

If you have a normal cabin, you can order a shower stool in advance by filling in the special needs form (speak to your TA). They are usually first come, first served and limited availability so get in quick. It can be very snug using a stool in a cabin shower so if you are particularly worried about mobility book an accessible cabin.

The alternative is to take one of your own, of the folding variety. They aren't expensive, but obviously add to luggage weight if you are flying.

As far as I know, you would need to be in a HC cabin since they have the larger shower area that would accommodate the pull down seat that should be attached to the wall. Unless you're in a suite that has a larger shower area, I do not believe that a regular cabin could accommodate a shower chair even if you had your own that you brought from home. It would be a very tight squeeze. If I am mistaken, I'm sure someone will correct me.

My mother was in a standard veranda cabin on the Solstice and I ordered a shower seat for her. You will need do a special needs request as the first poster stated. It will be a little tight but it will work.

which has the fully enclosed shower. A shower chair would be a tight fit and might actually be more praoblematic than just standing. I have some mobility aned balance issues and was able to hold onto the shower and I had no issues. Unless she cannot stand at all for a few minutes, I woldn't worry about it. The stalls are pretty small and that actually helps because there's not a lot of room to move around so there's less danger of falling. If the ship can provide a chair, try it but I suspect you'll give it up.

Good luck and enjoy!!!!:)

Speaking of our voyage on Constellation last year, even a Royal Suite does not have a shower stall that works well with a shower stool. The glass door folded inward, which meant that squeezing in with the stool in place was a challenge. A simple curtain would have been a lot easier to manage. The floor area wasn't great either, so it was a bit of a faff once inside.

They may or may not; not a fun thing to find out as you arrive onboard. Talk to a Celebrity Cruise Specialist or Captains Club Host to get the specifics for your selected ship.

If they cannot accommodate your need; I used company called "Special Needs at Sea" www.specialneedsatsea.com when taking my dear mother in law on a cruise. I am sure they would have the chair you need (or fits) at a nominal fee. The benefit is that you don't need to bring a chair with you. It is delivered to your stateroom. At the end of the cruise you simply fill out a form and leave it there. Peace of mind and more room, if travelling by car.

Also, I strongly recommend booking the Handicap Cabin; as you can be certain any shower chair (yours or a rental) will fit.

Have a great cruise.

Thank you for your recommendations.

I hoped there was a pull down seat.

Oh well. I assume there is a grab bar.

We may not need a shower chair.

I'll inquire once aboard.

If necessary, there might be a plastic chair on deck that's available.

I feel the accessible (HC) cabins are for those who must have it in order to cruise.

ClairetoCruise,

I was on the Eclipse in an accessible room last year and wasn't sure if I'd be able to use the fold down shower seat.

I requested (through the access dept) a shower chair. I have no idea whether the chair would fit in a regular shower but here's a shot of what they (Celebrity) provided.

As you can see from the previous post, the HC cabin has a pull down seat that's attached to the wall. If you need it, book yourself into that type of cabin and do not feel that you're taking it away from someone that may be wheelchair bound. If it has a special requirement you need, then you deserve that type of cabin.

That's a lot bigger than the standard one for "normal" cabins, which is just a back-less stool with no wheels and a smaller footprint.
