We arrived in Vancouver via a one night cruise on the Golden Princess out of Seattle. After debarking and checking our suitcase with the porters we found a restaurant a block away from the pier and had breakfast. Breakfast was very good the restaurant was called Bellagio. After eating we walked around a bit, but since it was raining we didn't go far and just decided to go back to the pier and get in line to board.

Boarding was weird. Both the Golden Princess and Island Princess were boarding, so there were two different lines, but once you passed through a doorway to the security checkpoint both lines were mixed up, then everyone stayed mixed up to go through US immigration. Why we're there two lines? Then we were checked in and directed to the platinum lounge to wait. Within a few minutes in the lounge they started early boarding but our rooms wouldn't be ready until later. I think we were onboard about 11:30, but our room wouldn't be ready until 12:30, but we could drop our carry ons in the room if we wanted.

We had a similar issue with two ships at Canada Place. The US Customs was the same for both ships . After customs the different ships where separate for check in.

Our first order of business was to make reservations at the Bayou Cafe for dinner that night. We had never sailed on this class of ship before so we wanted to try the Bayou Cafe. We found the restaurant but no one was there, so we stopped at guest services and they told us there was a kiosk up by the buffet, so we went up there and made a reservation for 8PM that night. With our mission completed we walked around exploring the ship.

For lunch we ate pizza and burgers instead of going to the buffet. The safety drill was held at 3:30, our muster station was in the theater. At the appointed time we brought our life jackets to the theater and listened to the briefing and practiced putting on our life jacket then we were excused.

We chose an inside room for this cruise, C225, this was forward on a deck with staterooms above and below. Since the room was forward think we felt more movement front to back, but we were very close to the center of the ship so we didn't feel much movement side to side.

By sail away time it had stopped raining and cleared up a bit. We went to the deck above the pool deck for sail away. The Vancouver skyline is a nice view for sail away and then we sail under a bridge which is fun.

After sail away we did some more ship exploring, including stops at both Crooners and the Wheelhouse bars.

For this cruise we pre-ordered a bottle of vodka. We had never done this before but wanted to see how it worked. Our cabin steward left us a voucher in our room, then we called room service and they delivered the bottle. We didn't even have to be in the room to get it, we left the voucher and a tip on the bed and when we returned there was a cute little bottle of Sky Vodka. The bottles are only 375ml, for $17 I think, so about one third the normal size for about twice the normal cost??

We got cleaned up and dress for our reservation at the Bayou Cafe. What a disappointment that was. Apparently when we made the reservation the wrong room number was recorded. So when we showed up they told us we would have have to come back later. We tried to explain what apparently happened since we could see the reservation sheet with our room number but the wrong deck letter next to it, and insisted on getting seated, after all we were amoung the first to make a reservation. So they find us a table just inside the door to the restaurant, I suppose it could have been worse and been next to the door to the kitchen. We order and then 20 minutes later, when they realize they had made the mistake attempt to apologize and offer a free glass of wine, since I had already ordered one, they gave one to Tom, but since he hadn't ordered one didn't really want it. We both ordered some kind of steak. When I ordered mine medium I asked if it would still be pink and he assured me it would, but it wasn't. Tom ordered his steak medium rare and it was way too rare. Tom also ordered the lobster for an extra $5 which was very good, and the blackened seasoning on my steak was tasty. But for the most part the meal was a dissappointment.

We started our sea day at the solarium pool. I read my book while we took turns eating breakfast at the buffet. The weather was cool and the seas were rough so our activities would be inside today. We did some more exploring and then I found a comfy sofa to sit and read on outside of the Wheelhouse Bar.

At lunch time we decided to try Alfredo's for lunch. I hadn't read anything about it before boarding, but they were serving a limited pizza menu at lunch time in Sabatini's. The pizzas were good and it was a nice lunch. Another options would have been the Pub Lunch that was served at the Bayou Cafe. I think I shopped some more. But all I ended up buying was my usual Christmas Tree ornament of the ship.

At 3:15 they had horse races in the aft lounge. We made some bets and only guessed correctly once I think, but it was fun. We didn't feel like playing bingo after the horse races. On the way back to our room after the races, we were by the front elevators and the ship did a very noticable list, we could hear lots of dishes crashing in the kitchen below us. Not long after that the captain announced that we would be getting into San Francisco later than scheduled.
