“Flamingo beach?” Renaissance Hotel

Hi Robin. We just did this last month. Since we were docked from 11am to midnight we booked a room. Got a very good "senior" rate through the hotel website. We actually docked early and were off the ship right away. We walked to the hotel - easy five to ten minute walk. We checked in and our room was available right away. We went up to our room and dropped our bags off and took the boat over to Flamingo Island. It took roughly 20 minutes to get there. We walked directly over to Flamingo beach and there was not one lounger available anywhere. We then walked over to the family beach and same situation. We went to the bar (terrible service) and ordered a drink. After we had our drink we walked both beaches and there were still no chairs available. We put our stuff down on the sand, took some pictures and took the boat back to the hotel. We spent the rest of the day lounging by the infinity pool. We went back to the room, showered and changed and took advantage of their happy hour.

Personally I wouldn't do it again. It was a very expensive day with a lot of time spend getting to each location and then being disappointed with there being no loungers available. Wanda

Hi, we also booked a room on our March cruise which had an overnight in Aruba. We went to the hotel as she described, checked in and since very early we were able to get loungers on the Flamingo Beach side.

We've been there multiple times and had always enjoyed the peace and quiet...swimming, chair side lunch and drinks This time is was a mad house. College spring break people swarming everywhere and trying to get photos with the clearly annoyed or freaked out flamingos. the poor flamingos have clipped wings so no where to fly away.

Constantly taking selfies for their Facebook or other social media since they posed like crazy. Super model angles. It was hysterical except they were loud and took away from the private island relaxing time we wanted to have.

After a couple of hours we left our loungers and went over and had lunch at the family side and then went back to the hotel. Outdoor pool at family building of hotel was also loud with DJ screaming and wall to wall kids in the pool.

We actually spent the night at the hotel (after making sure Guest Services on the ship knew where we were going to be.) The room was blah and as she mentioned the Happy Hour was a little fun.

the next morning we agreed that we have had our fill of the not so private island and won't be back. We were happy to be back on the ship and our balcony. It was not just the Spring Break atmosphere it just seemed to have lost its charm overall.

why would we do this? Do guest services care?

In case there is an earlier departure time due to weather or other issues guest services would call you. Plus we told our cabin steward we were off the ship overnight ( not where ) and she was very happy we did. Left her note in cabin She knew our habits after 7 days and said would’ve been worried if bed not slept in and towels unused next day

much appreciate these recent reports. have been to Aruba several times & always had in mind to go to Flamingo Island; WAS considering for upcoming January port-of-call, but based on recent reports, dropping this idea! will find something else to do/somewhere else to go...

The only way you would even be able to do It is to book a room at the Renaissance. They have a limited amount of tickets that they sell for $125/person and one has to be there very early in the morning.....and sometimes they don’t even sell them. Not really worth it in my opinion, unless one stays at the Renaissance, to see 5 flamingos with their wings clipped so they don’t leave. Flamingos aren’t native to Aruba....jmo

That’s true, but they don’t like to advertise it so that’s why I didn’t anything about it

The last time we visited Aruba, we purchased a "day pass" to go to the beach through the hotel; no hotel stay. This is no longer an option here?

It is only an option if they have tickets to sell and one would need to be there by about 6:30 am to see if there are any available. IF they do have them the cost is $125/person

When I called the hotel they said they are based on occupancy and available for purchase between 7 and 8am.
