Day trips from Barcelona

Recommended Posts

Girona is a neat little city not far up the coast from Barcelona...

Nearby is Figueras, the birthplace of Salvador Dali...

A great day trip out of Barcelona is to head up to Girona and then to the Dali Museum in Figueras...

Tarragona is about an hour south of Barcelona by train. It has some lovely old buildings and cathedral, a large traditional indoor Spanish market (mainly food), and some interesting Roman remains, including the most spectaculat views from the amphitheatre. On the way back you could stop off at Sitges if time, a seaside resort with architectural interest and good shops etc in attractive narrow cobbled streets.

However- can you get tired of Barcelona?- have been 3 times and still not seen all of it! Last time we just went to the Pueblo Espanol which we thought was excellent, much bigger than we anticipated.

Does anyone know what the Barcelona airport is like. We have too much time to spend at the airport and not enough time to do a tour after our cruise. We're flying Business Elite on Delta but they don't have a Business Class Lounge. We can use AF lounge or the Dali lounge. Is there any good duty free shopping or places to eat?

Second the suggestion for Sitges; there is also a nice beach there and we found Monserrat well worthwhile although the train ride most of the way out there is pretty ugly.It took about an hour from Placa Catalunya including a change of trains at Placa Espana

In fact Barcelona airport is fine to spend time at. Confortable, airy and with lots and lots of different shops and fashion boutiques. Remember you´ll be in Europe after all.

I'll second your good words on BCN A/P.....we've been thru there at least 4 times and for an airport- it's pretty darned nice. Really interesting shops. Just don't forget to have your boarding pass with you if you purchase something from the DF shop....can't purchase without boarding pass. (My bad!:( - First time flying out of BCN I left everything with DH and went to make some last minute purchases at the DF shop - had to go back to get boarding pass before they would ring the purchase.)
