Carnival fascination

Well...all those who were commenting on CCL lack of hurricane relief...what do you say now? FEMA is using her for housing for relief workers!

Is Carnival allowing FEMA to house relief workers free of charge ? Or is Carnival being reimbursed for this service ? If it's the former then I absolutely commend Carnival for their generosity.

Even if there is some payment involved, it is still very generous.. You are talking housing 2000 people a week and feeding them. Plus paying staff. That’s a huge expense in and of itself. By giving up the option for the cruises, they have asked 30,000-40,000 guest to reschedule their vacation - and my guess is Carnival will likely eat some costs for airfare changes etc. and possibly lose business for all those affected. I am also confident that Carnival is giving up a LOT of revenue from casino, alcohol, shore excursions, photos etc. by not running business as usual. It isn’t an all or nothing matter.

We were on the 28th sailing. FEMA will be paying big bucks. I believe they usually get what Carnival would normally make for the cruise,

After Hurricane Katrina FEMA contracted with Carnival . If Carnival is charging FEMA this time, I wonder the fee ?

I just read some info on the cancellations, I doubt Carnival Is going to give all canceled sailings a free cruise credit. We should get something even if booked out in January as this has been a complete screw up by Carnival. On Monday sailings were a go and now Wednesday canceled. They owe me a FCC as well. I'm happy they canceled as the people of PR shouldn't have a cruise ship in port when there are so many other needs.

Thanks for posting this. Our 20th Anniversary trip and family vacation was on the Dec 17th Fascination sailing out of San Juan. We booked with cruise411.com (never again!) and they aren't even aware that ALL Fascination cruises from October 15, 2017 through January 28, 2018 have been cancelled. We found out here on the boards about the cancellation and directed them to Carnival's statement.

Our Cruise411.com phone call was 2 hours long. They had to call Carnival to request the refund, but then Cruise411.com has not agreed to refund their $100 fee, $24.99 processing fee, OR the $396 we paid to them for Leisure Care Insurance. What a nightmare.

We also have 4 airline tickets to San Juan booked - Southwest hasn't received a bulletin or update about Carnival's sweeping cancellations. They told me to call back.

I obviously recognize that this is a "first world problem" but I feel for everyone affected by these Fascination cancellations.

On Carnivals page it says chartered.

I'm doubting CCL isn't being made whole by the government.

It's a win win for everybody.:)

I'd say they made a very smart business decision chartering out the ship to FEMA. We all know the government overpays for everything.

Maybe check out Celebrity Summit? If you're unable to get your money back for your flights maybe there's a Summit cruise at the same time.

We were scheduled for 12/3 sailing so it affects us as well. I fail to see how this is a "complete screw up by Carnival". Did they cause the hurricane, the destruction, the need for assistance? Whether they are paid for the charter or not they are helping those in need.

Yes, we will get a refund and a 25% FCC, and if you book another Fascination cruise there is a $100 OBC. If you have flight changes they will also pay up to $200 Pp for change fees. What the heck more do you want???

Jewel of the seas RCCL goes out that day and rates are really low right now. Adventure of the seas leaves December 2nd.

I'm happy for PR, they need help. I actually didn't like the idea Carnival was restarting service so soon.

Yes they completely screwed up saying last week they would make an announcement last week...which didn't happen until Monday. Then on Wednesday they cancel all cruises until Feb '18. Yes they screwed up, don't ya think someone at Carnival was working with FEMA before Wednesday? I would think so, government contracts take time. Again I'm happy they're helping PR and they certainly won't be losing any money. Like others have said the Gov't always overpays.

Did anyone get to keep a FCC with a new booking?

I still don't see any screw up.

"Did anyone get to keep a FCC with a new booking?"

I rebooked and received the FCC, even getting a small refund as it made the new cruise I less then what I originally paid. I'm happy with it.

Well, I think we really need the biggest amount of ships in port as soon as feasibly possible. Small as it is, the estimated total economical impact to the island has been estimated at over $8M for the period the ship will be serving as a floating hotel.

Now, I work in the hospitality industry amd I can vouch for the need for rooms since there are a few big hotels still partially or completely closed (Ritz, El San Juan hotel, Intercontinental, Condado Plaza, to name a few). Of those still functional, some are taking limited bookings, some have been filled with government agency officials. The one I work at has enough abbreviated agency names for a letter soup. And if Carnival is anyway like hotels, the are glad to charter to the government. It guarantees a full house, promt payment and future bargaining chips. Trust me, Carnival didn't make the ship available in 48 hrs time just to "break even".

El Yunque is devastated and will be closed for quite some time. But most of old San Juan is moderately functional (not sure about the forts, though). If I'm not mistaken RCCL already resumed sailings from San Juan.

I rebooked on another Carnival sailing and received the 25% discount. We used that to upgrade to a much nicer room and I still have $120 coming back to me.

I called American Air and changed my destination. I had non-refundable tickets, but they're waving the $200 change fees. The difference in airfare was going to be almost $200pp, which was conveniently the same amount Carnival is covering. After putting me on hold for a bit, she came back and surprised me by waiving the difference in airfare too.

All-in-all, pretty good customer service from both Carnival and AA!

Was the 25% discount based on the old fare you paid for Fascination? I'm looking at re-booking and it looks like the 25% is based on the old fare per my TA. Thanks in advance!

Hey Fran, I just pulled up our new booking on the Fascination that my sis re-booked yesterday. I only see a $50 OBC.24bb541cbaffa85ac322d35b68b042ba.jpg
