St. Peter Port, Guernsey

Recommended Posts

Here are some of the resources that I've been using to plan our day in St. Peter Port. Thought I would share and maybe save someone some time and/or work.

Self-guiding walks of St. Peter Port:

I found the maps and audio (that you can download to your smart phone and play as you walk) very useful. Tasty Walk 2 is the one that I'm most focused on for this port.

Very cool virtual tour of St. Peter Port:

There's a youtube channel by a gentleman named Vic who has done all sorts of vids of St. Peter Port. He's fond of boats and tends to talk a lot but he does provide some information. Below is his youtube on Cornet Castle

For a broader look at the island of Guernsey this is a pretty good vid:

Thanks we have been there once and loved the place. We took the public bus up the coast and walked the sea cliffs back to town. We have another stop planned there next year so your links are of a great help.

This will be our third cruise and first trip ever to Europe. I'm so excited I can't stand it. LOL! Though we have traveled extensively in the USofA.

Hubby and I spend a lot of time enjoying the anticipation before a trip and part of that is researching the various places we go and want to do. To us it makes for a more relaxing experience once vacation time does begin.

Can you go into a little more detail about the walk...this is something we would enjoy for part of the day.

We did R2 and R1 (R1 we did backwards). The walks are fairly well marked and you can't really get lost as you are walking along the coast.

You can take a cab to the Jerbourgh Hotel or bus 81. We took the bus, it costs 1€. The bus starts about 15 minute walk from the tender drop off.

Here is the bus info:

That's a great idea as well. Where did you get the bikes?

The bikes were at the dock where we tendered. Sorry, I don't remember if the tour was private or a ship's excursion. However, it wasn't expensive. The route was nice and about 14 or 15 miles, which was not a problem for DW and I, since we bike at home twice that distance on a regular basis.

I am glad that you're so excited but the Caribbean Princess has the British Isles cruise on July 7 and 19 but not on July 17. It would be a shame if you got there 10 days late or 2 days early. Have a great cruise.

Thanks for sharing the info.We will be visiting st peter port on our next cruise and plan to use the public bus to tour around the Island. The cost is only £1 per journey.

Just a warning, road traffic can be very congested on the island.

Would it be easy to rent a car here? Or better to just ride the bus?

How much of the island can you see by bus in 1/2 day?

Depends how much you get off ;). I think the bus that circle the whole island takes around an hour.

The season started in Guernsey on Friday, with the Amadea from its round South America cruise and the Azura southbound on Saturday.

If you would like to get an idea of the liners in Guernsey you can have a look at my blog, http://guernseyliners.blogspot.com/

This season see's a easier climb from the tender pontoon in St Peter Port.

Hope you all enjoy your visit, the round the island bus ride gets very crowded with queues at busy time.

The walks in the higher levels of St Peter Port gives good views out over the east coast.

A link for those of you who may not have seen this in the news section

Welcome in advance to those of you who are booked or plan to be on a cruise which stops in Guernsey in 2017.

Guernseycruiser, thanks for the link. We were in St Peter Port last year and will be going there again next June. My mom will be with us and the Petit Train sounds like something she'd find interesting. We'll also be doing the bus ride round the island, I hope to visit the underground hospital which I missed last time.
