Panama Canal Amsterdam v Nieuw Amsterdam Advice Please

Good Morning Everyone

I am considering a full transit of the Panama Canal in the 'dry season'.

One option is a January LAX departure on the Amsterdam; the other option is a March FLL departure on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Current UK pricing NA is 20% higher than the Amsterdam.

Speciality dining is not an attraction to me - I have dietary restrictions.

However I do like multiple evening entertainment options.

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

We’ve been on both the Nieuw Amsterdam and the Zandaam, a twin to the Amsterdam. They’re both great. Nieuw Amsterdam is newer and larger, and livelier at night. The jazz club, and Billboard on Board, with the dueling pianos, are a ton of fun. The buffet is much nicer and larger, with more selections. There’s also a thermal suite with a great indoor (for a fee) jacuzzi.

The Amsterdam will have none of that, but it will be more intimate and comfortable. The Explorations Cafe is a really cozy space, with a library and these great eames chairs facing big picture windows.

So I think it’s a matter of what you’re looking for...
