Price Drops After Final Payment, Help Me Understand

I think I might be confused so if I am, I would appreciate you guys unconfusing me. ;)

With this new pricing structure, are people that book prior to final payment, in a sense, foolish? I am on a Thanksgiving cruise, obviously a holiday week, and it seems to have a ton of cabins left. So assuming the prices drop next week to fill the ship, and given that BBB is permanent and always available, other than picking your cabin location, what is the point of booking early?

I am thinking I should cancel and just rebook next week since I am not missing out on anything other than my 1A that will probably become unavailable.

What am I missing here? I am questioning keeping this booking when odds are, prices will come down. ????? I am so confused. Seriously.

I know what you mean but often you have to pay a price your happy with - take the benefits offered and enjoy what you chose. I have booked last minute and booked a year in advance. I have secured a room I wanted in the location I wanted and I've also taken guaranteed and get what I'm given. I do think the prices will come down but I would either try and get more on board credit or cancel and rebook if it suits you. The other option is to not look at the price!

Do they ever give more OBC to compensate for price drops after final payment even though they don't have to? That would work for me but I had no idea it wa possible.

Nope, they don't give extra credit.....prices may drop.....(they

also may go up). Just book a cabin with a price you are happy with but as

for extra credit? Nope.

Oh...if the prices go down and you want to upgrade yourself to another

category, you can do that too.

We are a few days away from sailing, and the prices have never dropped past what we paid a few months ago. If they did drop, I would hope the drop would be enough so that we could upgrade to a better cabin. You can upgrade as long as the new location is $1 more than you paid originally. We have never been able to grab a last minute bargain--still hoping!

I think I get what she is saying an thinking.

Under the new BBB concept there is never supposed to be anything different from what is initially set up and published. So other than to get a location, why not wait? Right?

Right. I guess I'll see how it goes and plan accordingly for future bookings.

It's kind of like being on a blackjack table and being up a grand. Do you quit and be content by walking away or do you risk what you have won with the hopes of gaining more or quite possibly losing it all back to the house? Learning to be content with what you have is the key to happiness. If you follow these guidelines you wouldn't be in a casino to begin with, so don't take my advise. :D

Don't know where you learned that "there was never supposed to be anything different that what was initially set up". If the cruise is selling well you could wait and have the prices go up! 4 of our 6 booking have increased substantially in price. One is about the same. The only one that has had a price drop is a TA so no BBB or 123 involved.

Ha Ha! Well I was perfectly fine with that explanation when there was the possibility of losing perks. And I wouldn't even consider it if the cruise was selling well and there was a chance prices would go up. They might even artificially increase prices to placate those of us who did book early. But ultimately, they have a ton of cabins to sell and airfare is OUTRAGEOUS ($831 one way on the 28th Miami to Boston) so odds at this current blackjack table are in the cruisers favor.....I would think.

It may be head-in-the sand thinking, but after final payment, I stop looking at pricing. Chances are it'll just put me in a bad mood.

Well, don't do that. We've gone from an Oceanview to a Balcony and an Aqua Class to a Sky Suite because of a price drop and a just paying few dollars more.

If you are happy with your stateroom/price, then stop looking. :)

I agree. We went from inside to Concierge for just over $100 total for both of us on a twelve day cruise. it was a guarantee cabin, but it was assigned in a couple of days and we changed to one that suited us better in the same category. We are looking forward to the cruise next month.
