Walking Madeira

Recommended Posts

Can we walk to the center of the city from the ship? We would like to take the cable car, but how easy would it be to walk there?
We have been to Madeira several times.

You can walk but it takes around 20 minutes.

We got on the ships shuttle which took 5 minutes.

We will be on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. Does anybody know if they have a shuttle?
There is always a town bus usually for a charge when you can buy a return ticket from GS or on the quayside.

Walking time to the cable car depends a bit on where exactly in the port you are docked, it is approx. 25 to 35 minutes.(you can do it in 20 minutes but then you have to walk very fast)

Usually every cruise line offers a shuttle bus to the town centre.

Easy walk, all flat. The centre is about 15-20 minutes, the cable car is about as far again.

Take your time and stroll through the main centre, see the market (get there early to see the fish market in full operation, it is downstairs) and then onto the narrow older streets before the cable car.
