Kiwi Kruzer Posted October 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2004 From the P&O Australia web site; Hurricane Causes Further Delay to Pacific Sun Arrival Released: 01 Oct 2004 P&O Cruises today advised that repeated extreme hurricane activity in the Caribbean has created further delays to the refurbishment of its latest ship, Pacific Sun, which is in dry dock in Freeport, The Bahamas. As a result, the company has been forced to cancel the ship’s scheduled 6-night Melbourne Cup cruise from Sydney on October 30 (N434) and the following 13-night cruise to the South Pacific due to depart November 5 (N435). P&O Cruises deeply regrets the inconvenience and disappointment caused to its passengers by the cancellations. All passengers on the cruises are being contacted and offered a full refund as well as a 20% discount off a future cruise. Pacific Sun’s October 20 maiden cruise from Sydney was cancelled in early September due to delays created by Hurricane Frances which forced the removal of the ship from the dry dock and departure from Freeport to avoid damage from the hurricane. Pacific Sun’s scheduled refurbishment program has been further disrupted by the onset of Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Jeanne. Hurricane Jeanne crossed Freeport last weekend requiring another unexpected removal from the dry dock. Pacific Sun is now back in the dry dock and the refurbishment is proceeding. P&O Cruises said Pacific Sun is now scheduled to depart on its 11-night maiden cruise to the South Pacific on November 18.
