Taxis from Kahului

Hi,

We will be on the POA in August and I'm just trying to decide on car rentals.

We are probably going to rent a car just for the first day in Kahului, and my temptation is to ignore the shuttles and just grab a taxi to the car rental office. Are we likely to be able to get a taxi at the port or will I need to book something or use Uber.

If there will be taxis at the port then we will probably just grab one, but if it will involve booking etc then maybe a rental company with a shuttle will be preferable,

We rented from Thrifty in Kahului and walked right to the shuttle with no problem. The shuttles were very easy to find, unlike Lihue where the various shuttles are massed across the pier roadway and it's a bit challenging to locate the one you need. Hope someone with taxi experience will actually answer your question.
