Just off Splendor - Ask me Anything

Recommended Posts

Sailed Mexican Riviera July 21-28. Previously only sailed on HAL. Carnival was better than I expected. Aft balcony on deck 8 was great. Did the MDR late seating, food and service was typically OK. Buffet was "meh" at best. Ship was sold out but only felt crowded at lunch on Lido. Questions? Ask away!

Thanks ! That covers pretty much what I was curious about. We sailed Splendor years ago.

We didn't like the smoky casino that we had to walk past, and they had the portraits set up right there for formal night. Did they set it up there for your cruise?

Hi Patty, yes they still do the portrait setups in and near the casino. The smoky air was less an issue than some other casinos I've been in but still there. Also, the outdoor smoking area is on Lido aft next to Tandoor; the Indian food counter. Yuck.

What did you do in all three ports?

Cabo - water taxi out to the Arch rocks. Saw turtles, rays, and birds on the water.

Mazatlan - followed the blue line from the port to the Historical District. About a kilometre, nice walk thru the neighbourhood and then into the historical area. Checked out the cathedral, walked thru the market, and then hired an open-air (pulmonia) taxi to tour the city. 1.5 hour tour cost about $20. Had lunch at Mariscos La Puntilla a seafood restaurant on the water near the port.

Puerto Vallarta - Took an excursion (booked thru the ship) to snorkle at Majahuitas - a private cove, and then on to the village of Yelapa to sit under an umbrella drink beer and enjoy the scenic beach. It was tropical like Hawaii. The water was very warm and clear. This tour is put on by Vallarta Aventures, they were awesome, includes lunch and free drinks. Dolphins chased our boat back across the bay!

How was the entertainment as far as; Piano Bar, I'm sure they had an Acoustic guitar player, or how about bands playing around the ship? Was there Karaoke every night?

We thought the entertainment was excellent. The big musical show every night was high energy and well produced. We didnt spend any time in Piano Bar. There was plenty of live music throughout the ship. Small bands and soloists. A standout was a trio of violins playing contemporary music. There was karaoke most nights and a weeklong competition in the style of the TV show The Voice.

We have confirmed reservations for the Chefs Table. Do you know which night it's held? Looking at the itinerary it seems the last night is most likely.

Didn't see the schedule for Chefs Table. Formal nights were Sunday and Thursday. We did the Steakhouse first night on the ship. There were only two tables occupied and service was great!

I haven't cruised in three years. Do they still allow each guest to bring a 12 pack of sodas on board? What about a bottle of wine or champagne? Can you bring that in addition to your soda?

Yes, we saw lots of people carrying a 12 pack on and you may bring one bottle of wine/champagne per person.

Thanks Marc..

We are actually HAL/PCL cruisers, but since we are taking our 5 year old granddaughter with us, DS wanted the kids programs on CCL.

From what we saw, your granddaughter will enjoy it. Big kids area, lots of other kids, and they even have activities for them at night.

Awesome. I sail on her is October to Hawaii and I have an extended aft balcony on deck 8 as well. I am in 8450. I'm really exited about the extended balcony, but was wondering if there was much noise from the pool above.

Anything else you have about the cabin and the aft pool would be helpful. Thanks.
