Question about the port of Bangkok.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if Celebrity cruises offers transportation from the port to the city of Bangkok. I know they do not offer a shuttle but was wondering if they offered a two-way ride from the port to the city? We are wondering if it is worth simply staying overnight at a hotel.

Any info would be appreciated.

Happy Travels...:D

Celebrity probably does offer this. Most everyone on that voyage will want to go to Bangkok.

But if they do not - no problem.

In the cruise terminal there is a large desk located next to (left side) the main exit door.

At that desk are several staff who speak English.

Their only job is selling transfer tickets; one way and round trip, to Bangkok and other local attractions.

You can choose from buses, mini-buses, taxis, and private cars.

The rates for all tickets are posted on a large signboard in front of the desk.

The rates are fixed, and non-negotiable. They are quite reasonable.

After buying your tickets, you need to walk for about 30 seconds to reach the boarding location, just outside the main exit.

If you have any questions, ask a crewmember. They all visit this desk to go out after finishing work.

Celebrity does offer a transfer into Bangkok. This is a good option if you are choosing to do a self directed tour. You may wish to look out for various tours organized by fellow passengers with the local tour operators. Local tour operators will offer fully guided tours, the only requirement is that you book your hotel accomodations. However they will be happy to reccomend hotels that are convenient to the tour you wish to take.

Thank you Chauffeurboy. That is what we are planning to do. We are thinking of staying overnight in Bangkok since the distance to and from the port is significant. Any hotel recommendations and must do for Bangkok?

Many of us are staying at the Meridien. As for what are the must sees, I have no idea. We are doing a tour that covers the markets and a few of the temples. This will be our first trip into Asia. Very excited, but will be better able to advise after we have gone.

Thank you BuzzMuzz for the information. Do you know what the different rates are? We will arrive onboard the Volendam in November and are trying to plan an independant tour to Bangkok vs a HAL excursion.

We've been on the Volendam twice in the Far East - docking both times at Laem Chabang.

The first visit (2015) we stayed local and did two separate tours (with four others from our roll call) by pre booking a local taxi. On the first day we visited Nong Nooch Gardens; Viharnra Sien Sattahip (Chinese Temple), Pattaya Floating Market. On the second day we visited Pattaya, Pattaya View Point at Khao Pratumnak, Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai, Sanctuary of Truth. The taxi cost us 3000baht each day.

On our second visit (2016) we went into Bangkok overnight - again we shared a taxi minivan with four others from the roll call and stayed in the same hotel to make the transfers easier. We did our own thing in Bangkok as we have been there before, but early on the second day we all rented a long tail boat and did a canal tour which was good fun. The minivan was booked with Pattaya 4 Leisure and cost 3000baht each way. We stayed at the Mode Sathorn and paid 2913 baht (room and breakfast). We chose this location as it is next to a Skyrail station and one stop from the river for the excellent river boat service.

So in total we paid approx 5000 baht ($150) for accommodation and transport - the whole two days, for two people, was about $250 for everything. This was significantly cheaper than anything HAL had to offer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Celebrity offers DIY overnight shore excursions with or without hotel accommodations included.

Be sure to visit the Grand Palace and take a "long tail" boat tour through some of the canals. These are small boats with car engines that pivot to steer the boat. The term "long tail" refers to the direct-drive long rod from the engine to the prop.
