Bidding for Suites

NCL will email you inviting you to bid on an upgrade to different categories. There will be minimum bids required. There will be a meter graph showing you if your bid is poor, good, exceptional. The amount you bid is per person for the first 2 guests in the cabin. So if you bid $100, that would be $100 x 2 for a total of $200. If your bid is excepted, your credit card will be charged. You may not find out if you win your bid until right before your sailing. Also, you do not get to pick what cabin or where it is located. You just know what category you are bidding on. Good luck to you if you do bid!

That is what it looks like. You choose the amount you are bidding by sliding the scale. And yes, there is a minimum.

Once you do that you go to the next page and enter your info. If they never accept your bid nothing else happens.

If they do accept your bid, you get that category of room, whichever one they want to give you. They automatically charge your card, and you have a new room.

Bid is per person for the entire cruise.

They can notify you at any time up to 2 days prior to boarding.

You can bid on sold out cabins as well. People may back out, or they may win their bid to a higher cabin leaving their's available to bid on.

Thanks for the info!

We are booked in an MA on the Breakaway in October. Do you know if they offer upgrades to that category?

Also, how close to sailing does this usually occur?

Thanks!

Got my offer at day 80.

And no, I do not expect to win it, but it was worth the minimum bid for the GV.

Greetings! I have seen mention of bidding for suites/The Haven and I was wondering how this works. I’ve cruised NCL many times but it’s been a few years and I’ve never heard of it. Thanks! Daniel

The automated Upgrade Advantage system replaces the manual upsell call center used in the past (previously you called for a discounted upgrade).

Exactly 80 days prior to your cruise, your MyNCL logon screen will display a banner inviting you to bid for an upgrade. You are allowed to bid on rooms up to 2 cabin classes above your current booking class. The system will specify a minimum bid and maximum bid. It will also give you an idea on whether you bid is "poor" to "excellent".

The system will accept bids and process bids up to 48 hours before departure. Some bids are accepted early. Bids on high demand staterooms will be processed just before the cruise. If your bid is accepted, your credit card is charged and a non-negotiable stateroom is assigned.

Good Luck bidding!

Interesting, I'd have thought the high end would be processed first (of course I'm assuming that suites would be in higher demand), opening up more staterooms in the lower priced categories for additional bidding. Learn something new all the time I suppose.

They are hoping for the higher end rooms to be booked regularly. Although if you max bid, it is actually more than just getting the room at the regular rate.

Not going to give away a suite if you can sell it.

Yield management algorithms will maximize revenue from each cruise.

Oh sure, exactly at 80 day prior to sailing... Where do you come up with this stuff?

I sail on Saturday (the Escape) and when I log into my account, I still have the opportunity to bid. So you should have no issue waiting a while if you prefer.

If actual dates helps, i received an email from NCL january 4th, for a sailing March 3rd regarding upgrades.

I had an balcony room and was offered to bid on 6 suites category : SI,(SE/SF/SG/SH), SD, SC, SB, SA. I have bid on all of them since we had wanted to upgrade our room for a while but it was all sold out online so never bother to call them and ask. So when i received this email , i was wondering how could they offered us to bid on a category of room that were already sold out?!?! Well was i wrong ! One of our bid was accepted and for $3110 total ( canadian currency ) for a 2 bedroom family suite Aft ( 4 person occidentaux ). It wasn't a big saving for us, as our total price now comes up to about the same it would have been if booked from the start , about 1 year ago, in that room BUT ... we didn't mind as we really really wanted a suite now. ( Third time sailing POA, and third time trying to start with a balcony room, and along the way always change it to a suite ... They spoiled us with that Cagney Breakfast

My parents were in an inside and offered to bid on oceanview or balcony. Their bid was accepted for obstructed balcony at $170 CAD total ( double occ stateroom ). They were not offered to bid on a suite and i had not realize it before reading the comment about only 3 category upgrade stated here by someone . Good to know . Thank you for sharing that information.

It's a fact. At 80 days, you get a notice that yo can bid. If you are booked through a TA, you may not get one. A lot of TA's do not participate.

Maybe that is when you received a notice to bid, but I began seeing it closer to 60 days out. Making a blanket statement that it will happen precisely at 80 days is just lying. All you have to go on is your experience. Other people have said it was around 60 days. I would think it could vary by sailing.

I have not read 60 days at any time, it’s much more in line with 80 days. I’d be reluctant to pass on 60 day information as reliable.

We are sailing on the Pearl out of NOLA March 18th. My question is we have an inside cabin through a casino offer. We bid on a ocean view and a balcony on December 30th. This particular cruise is booked up and no longer accepting bookings. Does this mean there will be no opportunity to upgrade since the ship is booked? We are ok either way because we picked a room just steps away from the Atrium and outside deck. But it would be nice to have a view.

Thank you

Sherry
