Keeping in touch onboard

You would have to buy internet packages in order to keep in touch via cellphone, AFAIK.

Celebrity does not have an app to use to keep in touch.

A lot of people go low-tech, leaving friends and family sticky notes on their door or leaving voice mail message on the in-room phones.

Cell phones can be used but the per minute charge is very expensive. Celebrity does not have any apps related to phones. We use their wi-fi and then use Hangouts for video or voice calls. Their wi-fi is also expensive, but you can purchase packages for the whole trip. Not sure what others do who have to stay in touch 24/7, but I'm sure someone else will come online and give you some more thoughts on this

We just tell each other what our plans are until the next meal or "meet up" time....so easy!

Exactly. Never felt a need to keep in touch but then we don't usually sail with kids.

We always pick a time for dinner and meet up then

You will need the unlimited internet package, then use WhatsApp on your phone. This is a great way to stay in touch. If there are more than two of you, create a group. Worked like a charm when 4 couples were travelling together last winter.

We've done this before and it worked great keeping in touch with those on the ship and back home. Rather than "WhatsApp" we're now using FB Messenger as it seems more people already have that.

As someone asked before, are you talking connect with others on the ship? Or keep in touch at home? How many phones? Do you have an internet package? For all phones? What type of phone (make and model)?

Those answers determine the answer to your question. Celebrity does not have an app that you can use for communication on the ship.

Thanks to all for replies. I was looking for way to keep up with group members when on ship and on shore. Also called AT&T. They have several phone and text packages for while on ship. $50 for 50 minutes phone and unlimited text when ship away from land. And then day rates of $10 per day for unlimited while in Bermuda. That make $80 for the week for full use of phone while on shore and unlimited text with limited phone while on ship. Has anyone else done something like this?

If you get the WiFi package set your phone to WiFi calling and put it in airplane mode. Then you can make and receive calls and texts over WiFi. I think I also read that the new Celebrity app is free connection on board, but not positive.
