Doing the Rhine river northbound from Zurich to Amsterdam later this year. Can anyone recommend a hotel in Zurich for easy access to Avalon Felicity? Also, what would you recommend for transportation from Felicity in Amsterdam to airport?

We booked the Movenpick at the Zurich airport, which was Avalon's hotel at that time (you might check to see where they are booking the passengers that book airfare with them) and then took the pre-cruise transfer with Avalon through Lucerne, Mt. Pilatus and then to the ship. It worked out great.

The ship will arrange for a taxi for you for disembarkment. You tell them the time you wish to leave and they will arrange it.

Only IF you paid for transfers. Otherwise, you're on your own though the cruise director might call a taxi for you if you ask.

My husband and I are doing the same thing in May! Did you enjoy that tour? We just signed up for it.

This is not our experience with two Avalon cruises. There is a sign up sheet and all you need to do is check off the box arrange for taxi. It was done by the front desk. There was no “might”. Same experience on another river cruise line.

We also stayed at the Movenpick Zurich Airport, the Avalon hotel for our cruise. There was a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel and a train station right in front of the hotel. It was easy to take the train into old town Zurich for sightseeing, probably a 20 min. ride. We also took the Mt. Pilates / Lucern trip with a transfer to the ship. It was a great day & a nice way to meet some of our fellow passengers before embarking. You will really enjoy this trip. I wrote a fairly detailed review/ trip report of our cruise, which you can find by searching this board.
