A friend just got this upsell from Princess. They are booked in a ME mini-suite Royal Princess Aug 5/18

CHOOSE FROM THE FOLLOWING SUITES (rates are in addition to fare already paid): Full Suites (Cat S3) size from: 440 sq ft $999 US per person

And no, they are not taking it! If it gets dropped they may consider it. They are Elite

Ooh this is my cruise, we are in a deluxe balcony - 3 of us but are UK and don't seem to hear of UK passengers being offered any upsells.

Received upsell offer yesterday on upcoming July 4, 2018 Regal Baltic cruise which is showing as SOLD OUT...$159pp to upgrade from BF balcony guarantee to a mini-suite.

As I am traveling solo, don't need the extra space and single occupancy pays 200% ($159 x 2 = $318)

...definitely not worth it for me.(n)

Just what we were hoping for! Thank you, Princess:hearteyes:

July 11 NB Vancouver to Whittier--booked directly with Princess--platinum (11th Alaska cruise)

4/15 Booked BE Balcony (aft, covered) for $1599 (happy with that rate, which was very good); paid in full by 4/27

5/23 Fares dropped (watched them daily), called Princess to inquire if our booking qualified and they re-fared us at $1029!

6/11 Received Upsell Offer via email with phone # and extension to call--$129pp to upgrade to MD Minisuite. Left message within 10 minutes of receiving email. Agent returned call within one hour, listed the available minisuites and asked for decision right then. We're now confirmed in aft, covered minisuite!

Will be difficult to stay focused on work for the next four weeks!!

Unfortunately today was a very busy errand day so didn't see my upsell offer for three hours after it was sent!! Called and left my number anyway, so we will see what happens.

Offer is for the 7 day Western Caribbean itinerary sailing on July 28th on the Caribbean Princess. Offer is from a Regular Balcony(ours happened to be aft, deck 10(larger balcony deck!) to a mini-suite(MB-BD) for an additional $139pp.

That comes to $19.86pp/day more which I don't think is bad for the switch. I looked on the booking site and there are 22 staterooms still available to book with most in not too bad locations. So I will definitely take it if there is anything decent left when I get my call back! And since so many rooms, even premium balconies are still available, maybe I will just wait to see if I get a free upgrade! After all, am ok with my regular deck 10 balcony at this point.

6/18 Received upsell offer to upgrade from Oceanview to Balcony for $259pp on SB Island Princess. Since we'd been refunded $1200 after refare on the NB leg of our B2B, decided it was worth the extra $$ to have the balcony (just a short walk from one of the forward "secret" decks)

Feeling very fortunate with the fare drops and upsell offers this year! So ready to be back in Alaska :D

How close to the sailing date when they start doing upsell offer? Is it usually offered through email on file?

Just curious if anyone knows if you stipulate "no upgrade", are you still eligible for an upsell offer? TIA

Yes, an upgrade and an upsell are two different things. You are not notified of an upgrade in advance; typically you just see it on the reservation info. With an upsell, you have the ability to know the cabin in advance and even negotiate for a different cabin of the same category.

An upsell offer can come at any time. I did notice that our cruise was listed as "sold out" about three weeks before embarkation. The next day it was again available with openings in all cabin types. My guess is that the inventory people were assigning guarantee bookings or offering upsells during the "sold out" phase.

My upsell offer came in about 3 weeks before sailing (YMMV). If you booked directly with Princess, you'll get the email. If you booked through a TA they will get the offer (and hopefully forward it to you in time to take it).

Of note, some travel agencies do not pass these offers along. I know, I know ... I was surprised to hear about this. I had booked with a large big box TA for years and wondering why I had never seen an upsell offer when I see on these boards how some get them all the time. And, we've sailed on Princess 2 dozen times already ... never seen even one upsell offer! I was transferring my booking over to this TA when they informed me that they don't really have time to pass those offers along to their clients. Well, no wonder I hadn't ever seen one of these offers before. I now weigh out the extras they can offer me as opposed to my chances of seeing an upsell offer. Sometimes I transfer it ... sometimes I don't. Just an FYI .... you may want to inquire how your TA does handle these offers.

We are sailing on the CB August 25th. My TA called me a week ago and said we had two up sell offers. We were booked in E731, our favorite mini. First offer was to upgrade to Club Class mini for $149 per person. Said no to that one. Second offer was to upgrade to a Suite for $449 per person. I asked my TA what suites were available. He called back in 25 minutes with a Princess rep on the line and offered A753, the owners suite. Done deal! All our OBC and Sip n Sail were honored with the move. Our TA has us marked "No Upgrade" for all our bookings. This is the 4th up sell offer we have received in the last 3 cruises. 1 month, 2 days and 21 hours until we drive down August 24th. No, we are not excited.

If you use a TA, the upsell offer will come to your TA. It is then up to them to forward the offer to you. My TA does that both by e-mail and phone call to be sure I see it ASAP. Yes, there are TAs who do not forward the info to their clients. This makes no sense since they will receive increased commission if you take the upgrade. Perhaps they feel the amount isn't worth their effort...more likely it is a corporate policy thing.

I received same offer for this same cruise, though mine was from the large Caribe deck balcony to a mini. I didn't care where the mini was located inasmuch as I would be losing my selected location and paying $298 for the privilege of getting a bathtub I wouldn't use and a small sofa which is also not necessary.

Enjoy the OS. :)

If you know that your TA does NOT forward upsell offer at all, is it possible to call the cruise line (Princess) directly from time to time to inquire about that?

I doubt it, but have no personal information. If you use a TA for your booking, all financial transactions related to the booking itself (not on board activities like dining or excursions), must go thru the TA. I imagine that if you called Princess and asked whether you had been selected for an upsell, they'd likely suggest you contact your TA. They use special phone lines when you are responding to an upsell or move over offer, not the regular phone lines.

As a reminder, please post your upsell information the following format:

Ship, sailing date, number of days, cabin category purchased, upsell price per person, cabin category upgrade.

Example:

Crown, 12/9, 8 day, mini suite, $249, club class mini

While I agree that this is the helpful information, there is no magic to your format. There is nothing wrong with the person who says the offer was from an OV to a premium balcony without your commas and your order. In addition, guess I'm out because I will not list a sailing date until I am home from my vacation. I don't publicize on line when I will be leaving my home unoccupied.
