Moorea IC BeachComber Restaurants?

For those of you that have done a pre/post cruise stay at the Moorea InterContinental BeachComber...what was your experience with the on-site restaurant facilities? Were these full service restaurants or buffet type? What is a good ballpark cost (US) per person per day for breakfast & dinner? Just trying to get a handle on cost, etc., & will appreciate any help or recommendations. Thanks - SeaFish

SeaFIsh, just back. We did a post stay on the Moorea BC. The lunch on Sunday will cost you (for a cold buffet) about 28.50XPF pp. The lunch sandwiches were anywhere from 11.50 included fries to 23.00. Mixed drinks around 12.00 each. Cokes about 5.00 each. We drank a lot of ice water (not bottled) Dinner for spagetti (which was wonderful) includes bread only 20.50xpf. We shared it and it was more than enough for 2 people. You could easily spend 50usd pp per meal if you want too, but we shared every meal and it was more than enough. We did carry several sealed snacks from home and that really helped save probably a couple hundred bucks over 12 days.

cruisernurse - thank you very much for your help. The info was great! Hope you had a fantastic time. We are planning a 3 night post TP cruise IC BC Moorea hotel OverWaterBungalow stay for Feb 2005. I'd appreciate any addtional info you might have on the following questions:

DINING - )What hotel breakfast options are available? Cost pp? 2)Did you try any of the other island restaurants? Recommendations?

3) Did you shop at the local "food marts"?

HOTEL - 1)We have been told that all of the OWB have their backs attached to land. However - in aerial photos it appears that some further out and away from the Dolphin Experience are totally over the water. Can you please tell me which is true & if you recall any preferred OWB room numbers that we should request? 2) Does the hotel have Car Rentals? If so - which company?

EXCURSIONS - 1) Did you do any island excursions with the hotel or Albert's Tours? If so - your recommendations please. 2) How was snorkeling at the hotel?

Sorry for all the questions but, we need to make some decisions within the next few day & your input will help greatly in the planning process. Thanks very much for your help. SeaFish

Seafish-

we are going back again in January and are planning to stay on Moorea a coupe days post cruise, but haven't decided where yet. If you haven't found it yet, www.thetahititraveler.com is a great source for information.

We did a shark/ray/snorkel/motu picnic excursion through Albert tours. It was great. It went to the same spots as the Princess one, but was a bit longer and much cheaper. We plan on doing it again on our next trip.

We did a 5 day post stay at the Beachcomber in May. It was great. We did manage to eat quite reasonably while there. I think if we'd had more time we could have found even more places.

InterContinental has good pizza (thin crust) and burgers on their menu all for around $13-15US. The mahi mahi burger or sandwich were really really good and big. All burgers and sandwiches came with fries that were really good too. For dinner, the chicken was the cheapest thing on the menu $1130xpf's, so I ordered it one night.........well........I got 2 huge bonelss chicken breasts in a Tahitian curry sauce, big scoop of rice and some really good green beans with peppers. It was really good and could have been easily split. Quiche was pretty good too, but we ordered fries instead of salad. Salad was just lettuce! Pretty well anything else on their poolside restaurant menu was up in the $23-30US range. Not open for breakfast. Opens at 10:30, so wait until then if you can and split a quiche with fries. Upstairs in the fancy restautant breakfast buffet $2850xpf's !! Express breakfast - coffee, juice, 2 or 3 little pastries and a 6" baguette was $1230xpf's! Didn't even go near there for dinner( although French Onion soup was ONLY $1100xpf)! If you order a burger and fries from the poolside restaurant, it comes in a big paper bag...like a spiffy shopping bag... the highlight is not the burger or fries though.....it is the mini mustard and ketchup bottles!!! Too cute...I wouldn't let hubby use them....they are in my china cabinet, next to the mini liquor bottles! Ask for extras if you really need to use it on your burgers.

There is a Miss Pizza right across the street from the hotel too. Really good pizza and about the same price, but a little more variety.

In Le Petit Village (1/2 hour walk) there are a few good cheap eats places too. Le Sylesie for breakfast....1000xpf's for a 3 egg omlette, 5 or 6 pieces of bacon and a toasted baguette, 800xpf's for a huge fruit plate. Both can be easily split.

Chez Capo for dinner......6 people, a bottle of wine, a couple of Hinano's, super service and a super friendly guy....12200xpf's (about $130US) and the appies are free....taro chips....mmm

A crepe place, can't recall the name of it, but there is an internet cafe there and the grocery store is in the same "mall". 1100 - 1400xpf's depending on what you want in it....very splitable.

Stock up on goodies at the grocery store for happy hour at the hotel....and buy any booze onboard....it is way cheaper and you get 10% off if you buy 3 bottles - 2 to take home and 1 to drink there!

Sandwiches from the truck up at Le Belvedere are to die for......baguettes a foot long, ham, cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce.....350xpf's, 500 if you want a salad too. If you aren't there at lunch stock up, take them back to the hotel for dinner (stash them in your little fridge)

Hope you have a great trip...we sure did. I think it was one of the best we've ever been on.

Linda.

The exchange rate when we were down there was approx. 9600xpf's for $100US give or take some change. Some places took US at par, mostly the craft markets and tour outfits but none of the restaurants or supermarkets.

Unless you have huge appetites, sharing will work really good as most places gave you a ton of food.

Enjoy!!

Linda.
