Linking Seats

reservation or PNR codes can be linked but that has nothing to do with seat assignments.

 

If one of you hold an elite status and a comp upgrade becomes available, the linked status "could" allow both to be upgraded but that's about it to the best of my knowledge.

If this is a major worry for you, you could cancel and rebook on the same itinerary.
Though with the caveat (explained further on the other thread) that even this doesn't guarantee that the two pax will be seated next to each other on the aircraft, or even (in extreme circumstances) on the same aircraft.
