What's the rudest or strangest thing you've seen recently on a Royal Caribbean ship?

John&lala, never say sorry, as that word is an admission of self guilt. And can be used as an acknowledgement of wrongdoing. Just stick to your guns and say how you feel.

 

Had you not began with sorry... your post would have been a valid opinion from your POV. You would definitely not want to be at my table. A bunch of loudmouth NJ,NY litigators who never stop working.

 

In fact, we have a large group sailing next Nov. on the Anthem. One of my friends actually booked two of his staff in the cabin next to their suite. So work can be conducted. Thats a lifestyle. Not many can live with.

 

But like everyone else, we all see things with different color filters.

Yes, not a lifestyle many can live with. Reminds me that I am currently reading The Bonfire of the Vanities.

Definitely rude. They barely have enough room for what's supposed to be on the table. If work is that pressing stay in the cabin or somewhere where its enought room to work. Because your not paying attention to your family anyway.

We went on a cruise with 1,000 Florida State spring breakers. Every night in the dining room guys would stand up and have a girl on her knees in front of him and he would hold a bottle of beer in front of his.... you know... and she would chug it while everyone cheered her on. Truly one of the most disgusting and degrading things I have ever seen. Even with multiple complaints it continued.

Wow, as a gay man I would have gone to assist the waiter and encouraged him to report the passenger...

 

As a police officer I would have done anything to make sure the passenger was charged criminally.

The waiter later told us the man was insistent that he kiss him.The poor waiter was in tears and scared to lose his job as his head wouldn't back him.

My wife and I got on an elevator and had a woman who I'll assume was British based on her accent, ask us to "Please exit this lift and find another, I do not want to share a confined space with Americans"

Ooooooooh, them's fighting words! I can hear myself now, "Gee, we actually have something in common. I HATE being confined in small spaces with snotty Brits!"

DW and I decided to have breakfast in the MD. I wanted the buffet and my Wife chose table service. At the buffet, I went down the line, choosing my options. First, bacon. Next, potatoes. I stepped over to the scrambled eggs, lifted the lid and went for the serving spoon, but before I could grab it, some $&@&& woman grabbed it, almost stepped on my feet, and began filling her plate, while I’m still holding the lid. No “excuse me” or “thank you”, just complete inconsideration, rude and disrespectful. I almost lost it. I got back to the table and my wife asked me why my ears were so red. I told her the story.

Sigh. I've been known to get so rattled by this type of experience in a buffet line, that I accidentally drop my plate of food into someone else's plate!

Then, we both have to start over (at opposite sides of the ship, of course). It's worth it. ;)

I would not take my laptop to MDR but everyone is different and if someone else did, I would find it strange but not necessarily rude. You get all kinds on a ship and I am not going to impose my sense of etiquette on others.

On one cruise (A transatlantic), I took my books and laptop and I did spend time doing some work. Not in the dinning room but elsewhere on the ship. I very much hope nobody passed judgement for me to be seen with a pile of books and a laptop.

How do you know it was not important? It would be naive and ignorant to automatically assume it was frivolous activity. My wife is an international tax attorney. She deals with clients who also live overseas. Bedtime for you, mid work day for them. Business never sleeps. Neither does international commerce.

 

For some, a vacation does not mean a cutoff from work.

Since we don’t know what this person was actually doing with said laptop. Presenting that as rude, is unfounded and in itself rude.

Would your wife bring her laptop to dinner and allow others to view what was on the screen (likely sensitive information, based on what you've said she does for a living)?

Gross as well as rude. A guy spitting on the walking track as he was doing laps. I reported him to a pool attendant. He was also watched by the pool attendant who also saw the guy spit.The pool attendant reported the guy to his boss. The guy was stopped and talked to and then escorted off the track by the pool attendants boss and a security officer.

Most disgusting was in buffet. it was actually my young niece who was about 7 who spotted her. A woman with her hand down her trousers scratching at her backside. My niece was so disgusted that everyone in the line heard her say that lady is scratching her bottom next to the food and then pointed at her.

On Navigator last year I was waiting to get in the lift with my elderly mother and another passenger with a scooter was also waiting we were on the top deck so had been waiting quite some time for the lift when a member of staff pushing a large piece of equipment (I should say he was from the film crew that was filming not the usual ship crew ) walked up and when the lift came he tried to get in the lift before us and more shockingly the person with the scooter. He couldn't get in however as there where already 3 people in the lift who had got in the lift as it was coming up. BUt he wasn't happy to have to wait and actually gave the attitude that we should all get out again and wait so he could get in.

I would offer the thought that bringing a lap top to dinner is not only rude but kind of sad. If you are so driven to work, or so addicted to the web or some game, that you can not take time off for a meal, you really are a loser in so many ways.

We are not all like it....

It was many years ago but I spent a summer in England (East Sussex) working in hospitals. I encountered at least one person who was very anti-American and referred to me as a Yankee Doodle":D I didn't understand it but there was some reference to the value of the currency at the time. It would have been interesting to ask the woman on the elevator " you must have had a bad experience with Americans... What happened? Of course by that time the elevator would have started moving ;p

As someone who needs a scooter to cruise, I'm fairly certain that the scooters give me the super power of invisibility while I'm waiting for elevators. ;p:o:mad:;p

I always give way to scooters and wheelchairs at lifts even if i have to get another lift.

Looking forward to my first RCI cruise in August but we've been on many cruises with a variety of companies. Probably the rudest incident was a family on a Thomson's cruise a few years ago who seemed to be having a competition in the bar to see could break wind the "ripest"! They thought it hilarious and began to abuse other passengers sitting nearby who could not see the funny side. For those who have never cruised Thomson's, it caters for the, shall we say, lower end of the British cruise market.

 

Leading on from the laptop-at-the-table conversation, we once shared a table with a bloke who was constantly emailing on his Blackberry and telling us how busy he was at work and that he really didn't have time to be on holiday. I just wanted to say "Yeah, yeah, I know, you are just so f***ing important!".

The drink deals Thomson offer attracts the lager lout type.

There were a few last week but the one that made me laugh the most was the number of people getting 6+ tickets to the one per person raffle for the 2/$20 t-shirts. I guess they really NEEDED t-shirts.

We love American people and have visited Florida 30 times.

We are not all trash who call America and the same bigots are reviled by us too.

I have found that the rudest of people I have seen are the Diamond, Diamond Plus and above. Now let me also state...NOT ALL ARE RUDE!!! I have just seen a great many.

I have an extremely hard time watching these people try to throw their weight around, belittle staff, cut in line, make demands, and threaten to withhold tips because they have sailed more than the average person. Not all of us can afford to sail 3/4 of the year. IMO, those of us that work hard all year and choose to spend our money on a vacation should receive the same respect and service as those who think they are better because they are wealthy.

A laptop in the MDR is just plain rude....no excuse

Uncontrollable kids are the worst, I taught mine respect. Something kids now days are severely lacking

I think as I get older I'm 53, I have less tolerance for rudeness and b*ll****. I will call you out if you are rude!

The incident with the gay man assaulting the waiter...You can bet I would have come to his aid in a hot second!
