Quick Dry Underwear?

I need some help. We are going to be on a 14 nighter in the Baltics. DH needs a lot of underwear. (I am already planning the old-cheap and toss it out routine.) But since he needs more than 1 pair per day and at least 1 tshirt per day - I am concerned about way too much heavy luggage.

Anyone use any of the quick dry 'travel' briefs and/or tshirts? At $15-$20 each I would like some recommendations.

I'm thinking that using the laundry service might be a more economical way to go, rather than spend $15 on a pair of underwear. Just think, if you bought 2 pair you would spend $30.00, you would probably need 3 pair at a cost of $45.00. If you took 7 pair that you already have and have them laundered twice, it would be (@$1.50 a pair) $21.00.

Plus, you have the added advantage of not having to hand wash a pair of mens underwear.

Travel Smith has the quick dry undies. They really do dry quite quickly.

Thanks just what I wanted to know. I will buy some as DH's emergency stash. I have a couple of old nylon briefs that need replacing. It seems his clothes are shrinking or maybe he's gained some weight.

The underwear are for emergency carryon luggage. In case we are separated from our luggage or get 'held over' unexpectedly. Kit also has one pair mens nylon socks. And a clean casual knit shirt for each of us.

Maybe I'm too cautious but we were unable to leave NY for 4 days after 9/11. We were supposed to leave on 9/12. A lot of places were closed down. Many peoples hotel laundry was delayed for a day as Manhattan was 'closed' to incoming traffic.

I stuff my undies in my shoes, as for T-shirts, take 5 or 6 and have them sent to the laundry twice. Cruises are for having fun, not sweating the small stuff. Throw'em in the bag provided, leave'em on the bed, and go to a show or the casino.

We purchased some of the Ex-Officio Men’s and Ladies undergarments years ago for use on some of our longer cruises. They work great, wash easily and dry quick on dryer line in most bathrooms. They last and stay in great condition. Hubby uses their T-shirt’s as well.

Purchased from Travel Smith. Very satisfied.

Right - you can stuff a lot into that $20 laundry bag, and pack a lot in carry-on luggage, -- so you don't spend time on rinsing/washing and hoping they dry - and if they really are "fast drying", they usually feel like hell when worn.

This thread is 10 yrs old

having said that it might be still good info for some

The Tilley quick dry underwear is good & they do dry overnight

even their heavy trousers dry overnight sometime the waist band is still damp but unless that is the only pants you have it will not be a big deal

I used to bring cotton underwear but those were impossible to dry quickly. What I did last cruise was to bring athletic (specifically running) underwear (made in, IIRC, China but designed and sold by a French company called Decathlon) that I could wash at night and it'd be dry in the morning hanging from the drying line.

The outfit intends to make mail order available in California soon (the're already open in Mexico and intend to open in Montréal in the spring.

And prices are very good. I paid under CAD 4 per piece in Malaysia but the European (at least Netherlands) prices are a bit higher at €5. , I'm not about to pay Tilley Endurable prices (C$22 and up).

But since it is now current, I find that Duluth Trading Company Bare Naked underwear is very comfortable, and will dry overnight, easily.

I find it dries faster than the "travel" underwear sold by Magellan and Travel Smith.

I pack the oldest pairs of Jocky's I have for the number of days I will need and after worn, and just through them away each day. No nasties to wash or take back. So I never throw away my Jocks at home.

So you are either living with crumbling, no elastic rags which take up as much room as comfortable ones - or else throwing them out before their time. Take half as many with you and spring for doing a bag of laundry half way through the cruise, and enjoy.

Another alternative is Swimmers like Speedos or the like. I find them very comfortable when walking around in ports all day (especially on hot humid days, no chaffing) and they dry very quickly.
