Allure -once luggage checked is any lost?

Recommended Posts

As previously stated making sure your medical equipment gets to your room ultamintly lies with you and your family. The fact you say the others in your party can't help is selfish on their part. Have you even asked them of someone can meet you to help?

RCCL asked us to arrive early. We could not do as RCCL asked us to do if waited till much later time they come in. Cannot do as RCCL asked and wait for three different carloads of people coming in at very different times. What gives you the gall to judge my family. You know nothing. Every single one of my grandchildren has been praying daily just assure we get on this cruise with them (a medical crisis put a real scare in them last week). Had RCCL not requested we do differently we would not have planned as we did.

I know when we travel with family that needs assistance getting medical equipment to and from the vacation location whether it be a cruise or land vacation we make sure we are there to help get that equipment where it needs to be when it needs to be there. We don't depend on the cruise line or the resort to help us with that

Have a few capable men or women in your group wait to check in and wait for you to arrive at port. Once at port they all take a couple of bags and bring them on the ship for you. Honestly I think this idea has the least amount of worry and they can all follow you with the bags directly to the stateroom.

We arrive the day before we will have checked in as RCCL requested and have met with dining before any of them arrive in town.

You keep saying Royal requested you come in the day before. All cruise lines suggest you fly in the day before. I guess we are just not understanding why you feel this is more than a suggestion. Maybe that's the detail we are missing. I know wevwe flown in yyt day before and met with the dining staff after boarding for certain issues such as dietary requirements. But we always make sure we accessible to those traveling with us at boarding for the reasons you mentioned.

I'm confused as to how you are going to meet with anyone from the ship the day prior to boarding as the vast majority of the time, the ship does not even get in until embarkation day, which is debarkation day for the previous cruise.

Is it sitting overnight at Cape Liberty for some random reason?

In regards to the OP, yes luggage can become misplaced. When on the Navigator back in March, a form letter was placed on our bed the second evening concerning some misplaced luggage. It asked if you had any luggage not belonging to you to notify your attendant. Luckily, we had our luggage and I felt for whoever had not received theirs.

Your ship will not be at the port the day before departure. I am suggesting that a few capable men and women from your family wait to check in the day your ship leaves and you go on witth them with your luggage. Your luggage and you will not be on the ship the day before the ship is suppose to arrive/leave port. You can all walk on together.

I understand that you will be arriving a day before the rest of your group. Can't one of the groups arrive really early the day of embarkation and assist you in boarding. Not judging your family, everyone had different needs. But in this case I think at least one family member should be willing to arrive in town when you are embarking.

Good luck with this issue and have a wonderful, carefree cruise.

What time are you getting to the port? Cabins are open after 1:00. Maybe plan to get to the ship around then so you can head straight to your cabin with your equipment?

Good idea.

We will have 2 carryon suitcases with super vital medical equipment IVs and other stuff a 3rd with comfort medical equipment (I am not as worried about) and then DH will have the carryon suit case with reg meds and valuables as well as our 2 personal items. He cannot wheel 3 carry on suitcases and carry his backpack, I can carry my smaller personal bag. Our luggage has to get on or I have to off.

You likely won’t know that checked bags are onboard until the ship leaves the port. Bags are often delayed in getting to staterooms until nearing bedtime, and you can’t even start to expect to have them at your stateroom until dinnertime. That’s why the first night is always casual in the main dining room.

Every line I've ever cruised has been pretty clear that anything medically necessary should be carried on and NOT checked.

Yes.

Have you even cleared all this with the cruise line?

Taking extra bags doesn’t need to be cleared.

they are old enough to understand that Grandma travels with a lot of medical equipment and the family needs to get Grandma and Grandpa on the ship. Timing can be made to work, if you want it to work.

Yes.

Of course cleared with cruise line. Just like last X Cruise except AA is insisting we put the medical luggage in smaller carryon suitcases so three suitcases instead of one larger suitcase holding it all and now since the state of Allure beds requires mattresses and a pillow too. Of course my own personal, non official medical carryon we expected to lug around will have the meds for both of us we would not let out of our sight as well as valuables. RCCL will have to come up with something. If airline has to let the medical luggage fly free surely we can get some assistance to see that this medical luggage no one would want if knew what was in it should be an issue. But since will have a medical luggage tag on each might make someone curious. Much will be used up by end of the cruise. When I call they may act like I am worrying for nothing but now I am worried.

AA is telling you to pack in smaller bags because you are going to be carrying those items ONTO the plane with you. Those are carryons. Medical items are to be carried on.

And carryon bags have to fit in the overhead bins.

They won’t have medical tags on them.

RCCL asked us to arrive early. We could not do as RCCL asked us to do if waited till much later time they come in. Cannot do as RCCL asked and wait for three different carloads of people coming in at very different times. What gives you the gall to judge my family. You know nothing. Had RCCL not requested we do differently we would not have planned as we did.

I bet that those grandkids who are praying can ask mom and dad to start their drive a bit earlier to meet you at the port when you get there, and will be happy to pull a bag onboard for you.

Even if just one group gets there when you get there it’ll be good.

Just so you know, Royal is the one who asked us to arrive early so we are flying in the day before on their recommendation to see all gets in and meet with dining staff early as they asked us to come in to do. Our party will arrive later so cannot help. TA conferred with them prior to our booking. Airline doing things a little different than before so complicates things. They know about the luggage and how is coming I just trusted them before, so had not dealt with that extra issue but will do so now. I just know where there is legal obligation and a real need there should be a way to get it accomplished.

What does “to see all gets in” mean?

Meeting with Dining staff will happen when you are onboard. This isn’t something that will happen before. So ask one carload of kid and grandkids to get there when you’re getting there, and ask them to help you carry those bags onto the ship.

There is no “legal” obligation.

We arrive the day before we will have checked in as RCCL requested and have met with dining before any of them arrive in town.

I really doubt that.

The ship has to be there and empty and cleared by customs before you can get on. This is going to take time.

If you tell us the actual times you are planning to get in and meet with Dining, and the times family is getting in, it’ll be easier for us to help you.

Just an FYI, double check your luggage tags on whatever you check to make sure the correct cabin number is on them. I upgraded our cabin on 1 cruise then reprinted my tags. I assumed they were correct as my set sail pass was correct. The tags had my old cabin number so they were delivered to the wrong place. I went to customer service when we set sail & reported them missing. They were able to track them down & I got them about 2 hours later. Do Not Assume! Double-check!

If the Allure staff is made aware that you need help boarding medical luggage they will gladly make resources available to assist you.

Best advice is to talk to special needs. If they don't help you to your satisfaction I would ask for assistance when you process in at the terminal. It is common practice for the ship's crew to help people who have boarding problems.

I wouldn't trust the normal process of check luggage. Not because it might get loss. That would be rare but possible. But primarily I would be concern about baggage handling and the possibility of damage. Luggage is not handled with kid gloves.

We were just on Allure and on the third day we received a note in our cabin that there was luggage still missing that was last seen at the pier. So even though it is rare, it can happen. Not sure if it ever turned up but I wouldn't take a chance and check it.

We are in accessible cabin. Did not ask about special arrangement for luggage wanted to ask here first as had not heard about an issue. Had to make all those arrangements for flight TSA etc... We are only ones flying in. They are driving and small children in tow and timing will not sync up. I had not heard issue with luggage. The Vital medical equipment will not be needed till later at night. The items needed before we will keep in luggage DW has with him. Guess another call to RCCL to see they can help treat specially. There is no way DH can lug around that much w/o porters cart.

After getting of it all there through flights and through TSA is hard enough, and airlines are famous for misplacing luggage. Since never heard about luggage misplaced from pier except luggage with lost luggage tag issue. Just wanted to be reassured. NOT REASSURED!

I spoke with a lady recently whose luggage was dropped into the sea. They did retrieve her luggage but shoes and other items were ruined. They wash/cleaned her clothes the following day. Also have talked with a cruiser whose luggage was dropped while being loaded onto the ship and it was not retrieved...lost at sea. I would be really concerned about checking vital medical equipment with the porter. I do not know if special needs will be able to help or not, hope so. Glad you are still traveling despite all the planning and troubles. Enjoy your cruise.

We were on Majesty last week and I spoke with a lady who told me her brother's luggage ended up in the cabin of another cruiser and was not returned to him until 2 days later. He was 2 days with just the clothes he wore on the ship.

On NCL Epic in November I did not get one suitcase until 10 pm and had to go search for it myself and cabin attendant finally found it.

OP, I hope your family who is arriving in town day of cruise allows sufficient time for travel. Have read many horror stories on CC of people getting caught in traffic and missing their cruise. Believe it or not they blamed the cruise line for sailing without them. A normal 40 minute drive took us 3 hours recently due to accidents on Tpk.

Just because the airline is requiring the medical equipment to be packed in three different carry-on size bags does NOT mean that you're required to roll/carry three individual bags onto the ship in addition to your regular carry-on bag with non-medical items.

Get a folding luggage cart (twenty bucks at Walmart) and some bungee cords and put all the carry-on bags into one rolling unit. You can also use add-a-bag straps (eight bucks on Amazon) to attach bags to each other to be rolled around together. You can even tie it to the back of your scooter if it's too much for your husband to drag around.

Take a deep breath and just friggin' relax already. I flew with a non-walking toddler, a full-size carseat, two full-size suitcases, a stroller, and a carry-on bag -- all by myself, and more than once. I put the carseat on a luggage trolley, and used straps to connect all the bags together. I pushed the child in the stroller with one hand, and dragged the two suitcases, the carseat, and the carry-on bag behind me like a choo-choo train. After checking the suitcases, I continued to use the choo-choo train method to get the stroller, carseat, and carry-on to the gate.

And Royal hasn't asked you to come in the day before because of your special needs -- they recommend that of everyone. And you're not going to be meeting with the dining staff until after you board the ship, because the dining staff will still be in the middle of the ocean the day before your trip.

Calm down. Breathe. Practice packing and moving your luggage well in advance so you know how things will go at the airport and the hotel and the pier. Then just enjoy your trip.

One of the best answers ever. I'm the one that must carry everthing. Next trip, two suitcases, and one carryon, plus one backpack. For airports (when cart is not available) to getting on train, to getting off train, and walking a couple blocks and for walking from hotel to cruise ship (it's less than a mile) I have many "issues". Now, it's not as much as the poster, it is still a challenge. So, I use hardcase spinners, which are strapped together (8 wheels total) and the carryon laying on top. Wife, pulls it with a scooter, and I walk behind, making sure, it goes in straight. (like the fireman on back of hook and ladder truck).

In the posters case, getting it on the ship.....well, so many options. First is just ask a random stranger to get it over the gangway. Yes, this really works. That would be my only obstacle. I had people help me all over the world, getting luggage onto trains, or other difficult places, and help steady my wife as she transitions.

Special needs would most like arrange for help, but your post just shows what can be done, with some planning and adapting. The carry on bag is the only bag I need to carry on a ship, so I'm no expert for the gangway, but I am an expert everyplace else!

Where are you meeting with the dinning staff before the cruise? I find this very interesting and wondering where they will meet you the day before the cruise

Watched an entire trolley of luggage break loose from the tug and go over the side of the pier into the water. It was never recovered while we were in port. As most people have pointed out if it's necessary only RCCL special needs can help you. I am guessing for a fee they will arrange an escort to help you board.

I believe in Murphy's Law as I have been a victim many times. Things not delivered because they were used to prop a door open. Things not delivered because they were behind a door. Things not delivered because they thought a container was empty when it wasn't. Things that just disappeared from point A to point B. At best, it is an inconvenience and at the worst it is a tragedy.

In spite of everything you do, there is always a possibility that something will go wrong. Someone who was expected isn't available, another situation arises, there are others requesting the special services and taxes the facility beyond their ability to fulfilled their commitments, there is an accident and equipment is damaged or lost.

It may be difficult, but one suggestion is hire someone to assist you in boarding until the ship's personnel can take over. I don't know how you are going from the hotel to the ship, but if you make it worth their while, they may stay and provide additional assistance.

Many years ago I sailed on Navigator out of Miami. In the next terminal over was Explorer.

A few days later when we were on deck 2 waiting to get off the ship in Jamaica I saw a luggage cart with several suitcases with tags on them clearly labeled Explorer of the Seas. Obviously they had been placed in the wrong ship and were waiting to be returned to their owners when we disembarked in Miami.
