Private taxi help - Rome

Recommended Posts

Hi, im looking for suggestions and/or estimate costs for hiring a private taxi to take in the sights of Rome for the day and then take us to the airport following our cruise in July. We’d like a car to pick us up and take us to all the usual places and see the beauty of Rome before we get on our flight in the evening. It’s for 4 adults and 1 child (plus our luggage). Any suggestions for firms to use or ideas most welcome. Thank you

Welcome to Cruise Critic. there is a board here called Ports of Call. Check out the Europe bpard there. There will be lots of recommendations. EM

Many thanks, I’m still trying to navigate my way around this site. Much appreciated 👍

What time is your flight? Rome is long way from the port and the airport. Considering you should be at the airport three hours before an international flight how much time will you have in Rome?

Our flight isn’t until 7pm, so we have the majority of the day to use in Rome if we can. Thanks

We've also used Rome In Limo. Comes highly recommended here on the forum.

But agree that you will get more answers if you ask your questions in a more focused area of the forum.

Yes, it can take a while to navigate around the board but once you get the hang of it ...

And be sure to join your Roll Call. If you have trouble finding it, just post the ship and date here and someone will help you.

Echo the recommendation for Rome In Limo. When we debark on June 9th, a RiL van will be waiting at the curb for us and our luggage. We'll be whisked around all day and then deposited at our hotel at 6pm. All our luggage will be secured in the van with the driver.

For 8, we were quoted 650 euro for the whole day (8am-6pm), and got a discount for pre-paying online. They'll add an English-speaking guide for a bit more.

The drivers offer lots of information, but aren't licensed guides; they don't park the van and enter the venue with you, so if you want a guide, book one in advance.

On a previous tour, RiL adjusted their standard package to drop off half of our group (of 8) at the Vatican museum, and dropped the rest of us at a plaza nearby. We met up again in St. Peter's Square 90 minutes later, and zipped on to the next site.

RiL drivers jump out of the van, lead you to the front of the line, "shake hands" with the guy scanning tickets, and come back for you after your tour. It seems to be standard practice for these drivers to slip a few bucks to the gate agent, and we sure didn't mind!

BUT, it's critical that you buy your Vatican museum, Coliseum/Forum tickets online ahead of time. You need to have them in your hand to zip past the lines and get the most from your short day.
