Tell me about the Fantasy?

Have not been on a Carnival ship smaller than the Miracle.

Enough food choices as some of the newer ships?

Shows same as other ships?

Enough room around the pool as other ships (assuming they all have chair hogs)?

Tell me specifically about the condition of the ship. Looking for a September 2018 cruise and looks like it hasn't seen drydock since 2016.

As you probably already know, it's the oldest and smallest ship in the fleet. That said, a bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work.

In comparison, the Miracle is 14 years newer and 18k/gt larger than the Fantasy.

Go into it with an open mind and enjoy your cruise. :)

Well, I don't work anymore, so that thing about a bad day........

But thanks for the input. I just don't know if a smaller ship would realy be a problem. It's kind of comparable to the Glory (that I just got off of) vs. the Breeze. Noticable, Yes. A big deal, maybe not. Smaller ship, less people, so really don't know if it would feel any different.

Now as for the age, it has been through many drydocks I suppose in its 28 years. But the last one being 2 years ago, that is why I asked the question. Have you been on both the Fantasy and , say like, the Conquest class ships or Spirit Class (which both are 10-15 years newer) and can you tell a difference in maintenence & condition?

Cruised on the Fantasy twice last year. Even though the ship is small it has many upgrades..Guys, Mexican place, slides. The crew was one of the best I have ever encountered. Professional and friendly. The cruise director Mikey Gibson was phenomenal. Take a chance and cruise the beauty.

Well, just booked her for the 10 day September sailing of the Panama Canal Transit. Got a great offer from the casino. Total cost of $937 for an inside cabin for 2, with $200 OBC. Could hardly pass that up.

Thanks for the reassuance that the size will be alright. Being that it is a Panama Canal cruise, I would guess won't be a lot of families on it, so the cabins might not be all full to capacity.

My only reservation is the September time frame. Hurricane season and hoping for the best. Got travel Insurance just incase.

We love her, and the others of this class. Keep your expectations appropriate, not a lot of bells and whistles but great crew and staff, good promenades which you don’t have on larger ships, lots of food options. Enjoy!

When everyone calls the Fantasy small I kind of chuckle to myself. When I went on it the first time in 1994 she was one of the largest cruise ships in the world. It was 2 to 3 times the “old” carnival ships we had been on before. It was so big to us back then. I guess things change.

Headed out on her Saturday, but been on the Elation several times. Bigger is not always better. Both are very different experiences - not bad or good - just different. With that In mind, I enjoy the smaller ships for a change and try to do them every few years.

As far as maintenance and appearance, in general you could get on an older boat or a newer boat and not always be able to tell which one is older. Sure if you look hard enough and been on a lot of ships maybe....but you will like her!

Having sailed Fantasy several times, as well as several others in the line, including the largest at the time Dream.I can honestly say Fantasy is our favorite of them all! Yeah, she's got some age on her, but she's aged well, IMO. If you go in expecting Taj Mahal, you'll be disappointed. Unlike many, I don't find her to be crowded, or anymore crowded than any of the other vessels. Our first cruise was on Jubilee, which was quite a bit smaller than Fantasy. Loved her too!!

  • 2 weeks later...

We cruised on the Fantasy in February and had a blast! The cruise director was Benjamin Lambert and he was awesome! Not sure when he is changing ships, I think in August.
