Dream leaving NOLA

Did Dream have keyless embarkation last week? TIA.

No - had to get your sail and sign at embarkation. But I will say that embarkation was seamless with the staggered check-in. No priority boarding of any kind and still never had to sit in a room and wait. Was wonderful. If you have a current passport photo they don't need to take your picture; they use that with your sail and sign. Debarkation, however, was pretty bad. That was pretty much a mess.

Do you have any recommendations on hotels with free shuttles to port in New Orleans? And do any of the ports have beaches within walking distance so you don't have to do an "excursion"? We are going in January and want beach time.

There aren't many hotels that offer port shuttles. I believe Hampton Inn Convention Center is one that does.

Debarkation was easy for us. About 15 minutes was cut of because they have stopped having you to fill out the declination form for customs.

Quickest debarkation I've had was New Orleans two weeks ago. Like you said they cut out the customs forms. I was sitting at the casino bar when they called my number and within 30mins I was on I-10. And I didn't park at the port.

I agree about the customs form. We did self-assist, though, and everyone with their big bags, etc. (ours were smaller spinners) - it seemed like the whole ship was leaving at once even though they called certain decks at a time. We followed the rules and left right when they called our deck, but it was one of the last called. Took us an hour to get off the ship. Once off the ship, it was less than 5 minutes through customs and out the door.

One of our best cruises was on the Dream, setting on our aft wrap balcony sailing down the Mississippi. After you get into the Gulf you will see a lot of lights from the oil rigs. If you can stay up that late, close to mid night.

We stayed at the Westin pre cruise and at Embassy Suites post cruise and walked to or from the port to each hotel with our luggage and kids in tow. We did have to lug everything up/down some stairs outside between the mall and the port. Someone told us there was an elevator somewhere but we never found it.

Did you stay in a riverview room? I stayed at the Westin in April and splurged on a riverview room so I could watch the Triumph sail into port.

When you enter the Riverwalk at Julia Street, there is an elevator to the left of the children's play area. It isn't supposed to be used by Carnival cruisers. It is meant for RCCL, NCL, and any visiting ships.

  • 2 weeks later...
I'll be on that sailing too! We are celebrating my 50th on the 15th

If I don't run into you aboard the Dream, I hope you have a fantastic birthday. I know you will as what can be better than celebrating your 50th at sea. ;p

We will be sailing on December 17th, did anyone that has montego bay stop did the day pass for resort? I need some review on sunscape splash. I tried to do the search and most of the reviews are couple of years old so I would love to hear from someone who were just there recently.

Thank you

I will be on this ship in 6 days. Cannot wait.

:D

We were on this Oct 1 sailing which skipped Belize and then cruised back and forth in the Gulf due to Hurricane Nancy. We arrived back in NOLA about 9PM Sunday night and Carnival allowed walk off with luggage debarkation between 9:30 and 11:30 PM. That was a total zoo, with one Carnival employee trying to maintain some order in the theater meet and wait place. No priority debarkation of any kind allowed, it was just a free for all.

The rest of the cruisers debarked Monday morning, and then the Oct 8 cruisers were allowed to embark on a 6 day cruise. I don't know if Carnival changed their itinerary or offered any compensation for missing one day'sf sailing.

Thank you for the picture!! We were on her and loved her!

Our ports were Mahogany Bay, Belize and Cozumel.

Mahogany Bay: we booked Victor Bodden tours. Did the Best of Roatan and LOVED IT!! We had a private bus and driver for our group of 13. He took us anywhere we wanted. It was $25/person. We went to the see the monkeys and sloths at the rescue park. That was $10/person and so worth it. We got to hold sloths, monkeys and parrots. Was the favorite excursion for everyone! After driving and see all of Roatan, which we really enjoyed-even the kids enjoyed, we went to the beach. It was $10 for a beach chair and worth it. There was an awesome reef very close by to snorkel. We all loved it!! We tipped our wonderful driver another $5/person. Our total was $560 for 13 of us to have an awesome day in Roatan!! Can't beat that!

Belize: We had not planned anything before leaving for this port. We took our group and got a group picture at the Belize sign. Then talking to one of the taxis out there, we found a bus that would take us around Belize and to the beach for $10/person. Hubby and I ended up not going since 2 of our kids were not feeling good. But they had a the best time. They went to this private beach that was close by and said it was amazing. They had an obstacle course in water and lots of fun stuff to do. Said the beach was amazing.

Cozumel: Most of our group had been here several times, so we stayed in port at Fat Tuesdays and enjoyed. ;p Did hear people talking about a beautiful beach close by that was a $10/taxi ride. There were plenty of taxis outside the port. You just got in line and waited.

I recommend Daniel Johnson's monkey and sloth hangout instead. I've been to both and his is better

She's DEFINITLY a beauty !! She's my wife's fav and my second, if not FIRST ! We've sailed on her twice ! (Once was out of NOLA) We sail on the Breeze (our first cruise on her) in Dec on a Xmas cruise and will see IF she's as much fun as 'Our Beautiful Lady, the Dream'. I've got to admit the Breeze has some BIG shoes too fill. We did the Oasis of the Seas, Oct/2010 but OTS was just too MANY people ! (5400) now the Dream, she's just RIGHT !
