Frankfurt to Strasbourg

Maybe some of you guys can advise me? A friend and I are landing in Frankfurt next Oct and planning on taking the train from the airport to Strasbourg. I cannot find enough information on the logistics. Do we have to take a train from the airport to the main train station? Or do we need to take a taxi? We are in late 60s with suitcase but in pretty good shape. We plan on visiting Colmar and the other villages for a few days before taking the train to Paris and then on to Barcelona for our cruise. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

The internet is great,

Check out the DB (German Rail) site.

You can catch the train at the airport (Flughafen).http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?revia=yes&existOptimizePrice=1&country=USA&dbkanal_007=L01_S01_D001_KIN0001_qf-bahn_LZ003&ignoreTypeCheck=yes&S=Frankfurt%28Main%29Flugh&REQ0JourneyStopsSID=A%3D1%40O%3DFrankfurt%28Main%29Flugh%40X%3D8570971%40Y%3D50051209%40U%3D81%40L%3D008000281%40B%3D1%40p%3D1450278728%40&REQ0JourneyStopsS0A=7&Z=Strasbourg+Bahnhof%2C+Frankreich&REQ0JourneyStopsZID=A%3D1%40O%3DStrasbourg+Bahnhof%2C+Frankreich%40X%3D7734390%40Y%3D48585374%40U%3D80%40L%3D000751963%40B%3D1%40p%3D1449033198%40&REQ0JourneyStopsZ0A=7&trip-type=single&date=Tu%2C+26.01.16&time=08%3A03&timesel=depart&returnTimesel=depart&optimize=0&travelProfile=-1&adult-number=1&children-number=0&infant-number=0&tariffTravellerType.1=E&tariffTravellerReductionClass.1=0&tariffTravellerAge.1=&qf-trav-bday-1=&tariffTravellerReductionClass.2=0&tariffTravellerReductionClass.3=0&tariffTravellerReductionClass.4=0&tariffTravellerReductionClass.5=0&tariffClass=2&start=1&qf.bahn.button.suchen=

Here is an airport map from the Lufthansa website. The website also has some information for the trains to Cologne from the terminals.

Perhaps someone with a lot of experience with FRA can give you an idea of the logistics of getting to the train. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but you might also let them know which airline you are flying in on.

When coming out of the bagage reclaim, you will have to just follow signs saying "Fernbahnhof" and a logo of a train or DB. It is very easy and straight forward. It is a walk to the actual intercity station (say 10-15 minutes), but there is a moving walkway most of the way, and you stay inside the heated/ airconditioned terminal building all the way.

I just checked on the site of the Deutsche Bahn, you need an ICE Intercity to Basel and change at Offenburg or Karlsruhe. The trip should set you back approx EUR 60 per person for a Flex ticket, plus a few Euros for a seat reservation (highly recommended during peak times). Sometimes you can get a "Sparangebot" (savers' offer) for as little as EUR 29, but you have to choose the train you want to travel on, book online, and the ticket is non-changeable, non-refundable. Not a good idea in case of delay...

Since your trip is so far ahead, you cannot buy tickets yet (normally 3 months ahead or so). The mentioned website is the official site of the German railway and are a reliable source of information.

ICE trains in Germany are highly efficient, clean and spacious. There is a small buffet in the train which sells sandwiches and hot and cold drinks. You can reserve a seat, but you don't have to. If you don't, you might have to move once or twice because somebody comes to claim his seat.
