We would like to rent a car on Maui and would appreciate info on which agencies offer a shuttle from the cruise port. Thanks in advance for your imput!

Coming ashore at Kahului.

Guess you had to read the past posts...OP couldn't tell us.

For the OP, at Kahalui, the rental cars are at the airport, and all vendors provide a shuttle.

We cruised a few weeks ago and used Enterprise on Hana HWY, it is a 10 minute walk from the ship.

Good idea, but just remember that location is only open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays. If coming in by 4 p.m. on Sunday and not going out until after 7 a.m. on Monday works, it certainly is more convenient.

Yes, or if keeping overnight, but you then still have to find a place to park. 7am was a concern for our plans, but it did work out and we only paid ~$32 for the day.

  • 2 weeks later...

We had hoped to do the Luau which would mean dropping car off around 10 or the next morning....it is my understanding there is no parking at port so I guess I am wondering how late we can drop car off and how to get back to ship? Shuttle? Cab? Any info would be appreciated.

We have read this same topic on several threads, and we are curious what posters found out when they called and asked their respective car rental locations here on Maui? Those would be the best places to get the latest news on their shuttle hours.

As far as getting back to the ship, the shuttle is the best idea if one is provided and you get over to the agency during its shuttle's operational hours. Otherwise a cab from the airport (both the rental agencies and airport cab areas are close to the public parking) is necessary.

As suggested, you'd have to call the rental agency location you plan to rent from and ask if they provide shuttles. I doubt if non airport site locations provide them, but you might find one who does.

Or, just rent from the airport location. We use Thrifty. Renting through Discount Hawaii Car Rentals makes this easy. Call them to reserve or do it through their website, just add a dot com. Then just catch the shuttle inside the port to pick up the car. When you return it, the shuttle will take you back. If you keep it overnight, park in airport parking lot near the rental offices. You can take the shuttle back to port. Just check with them to see how late the shuttle runs.
