GUT2407 Posted June 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2018 They now say $13m+ isn’t enough, they want about $18m There was a private consortium wanted to build one, but they weren’t allowed put it on the City side so pulled the plug

The_Big_M Posted June 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2018 What a surprise - not. Typical private enterprise, wanting to socialise the losses/costs, but privatise the profits. No accountability.
Rare MMDown Under Posted June 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2018 What a surprise - not. Typical private enterprise, wanting to socialise the losses/costs, but privatise the profits. No accountability. Never a truer word was said. Where was the funding coming from? If Government, how can it be a private port?

GUT2407 Posted June 8, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted June 8, 2018 To be fair there are any examples of Public funding of private enterprises.
Rare MMDown Under Posted June 8, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 8, 2018 To be fair there are any examples of Public funding of private enterprises. How does it work? Is it a loan? In my lifetime, I've seen government rescues of these private enterprises, when they fail.
Rare MicCanberra Posted June 8, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2018 They did the same with Darwin, sold it off to the Chinese and lease it back. Makes no sense at all.

Toryhere Posted June 9, 2018 #13 Share Posted June 9, 2018 What a surprise - not. Typical private enterprise, wanting to socialise the losses/costs, but privatise the profits. No accountability. Not true in this case.
The_Big_M Posted June 9, 2018 #14 Share Posted June 9, 2018 They did the same with Darwin, sold it off to the Chinese and lease it back. Makes no sense at all. They play the long game. Our government just wants the short term sugar hit of some extra cash... ongoing costs are someone else's problem. Hence the poor governance we have now. The_Big_M Posted June 9, 2018 #15 Share Posted June 9, 2018 Not true in this case. Actually is. Costs are up, cause they didn't forecast their job properly. So it's off to the government wanting the taxpayer to pay for their mistake.
