GUT2407 Posted November 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Am I able to access this as cash on the ship or can I only use it for purchases, tips, shore Ex, etc Thanks Technically only for spending but some manage to get a bit through the casino. Load some on your card at the pokies play a few spins, cash out. I've never done it but others report it works fine.
Thrak Posted November 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2016 If you actually purchased it in advance then, even if you don't use it onboard, it is fully refundable.
Yukonbear Posted November 17, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted November 17, 2016 (edited) I know it is 100% refundable back to my credit card but I was hoping to access it for cash to use in the casino or for other purposes like shopping off the ship Edited November 17, 2016 by Yukonbear
phabric Posted November 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I always purchase extra OBC per cruise. Princess exchange rate for my cruise is $1.30 to purchase OBC is cheaper than the bank. I go to the casino, set up an casino account, transfer money from my sail account to my casino account, play a few slot machine hands (you don't have to), then cash out, take my voucher to the cashier and get the cash. You can use your card to get chips or straight into a machine to get gambling money. Trust me they want you to gamble so they don't make it hard. If you wanted cash for shopping off of the ship why buy OBC for that purpose. Just buy stuff on your credit card or with cash you could bring with you. This is no longer true. In order to do this, you need to play a few spins at the slots or other games. If you don't, there will be problems. WISH84 Posted November 19, 2016 #12 Share Posted November 19, 2016 So here is my spin on this question.. If I purchase Casino Credits, say $500.. won't I get "5" $100 vouchers delivered to my room on embarkation day? And if so, can I take one or all of them and cash those out if I decided to get the cash rather than spend the money in the casino? Tom You will get the best exchange rate using an ATM machine in port with a card that has no foriegn ATM fees or a credit card that charges no foreign exchange fees on purchases. No use exchanging money 2 or 3X.
phabric Posted November 20, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 20, 2016 In my case, I purchased my cruise in Canaidan $. I can purchase OBC in Canadian $ at $1.30 for $100US, the bank is charging $1.37-1.38. It is cheaper to purchase OBC in Canadian $ and take out money through the casino. No use exchanging money 2 or 3X. Those who book in a foreign currency such as Canadian dollars or British pounds can purchase OBC at the exchange rate in effect when they booked the cruise. If the value of their currency went down, they can get a better rate buying OBC than any ATM would give them. For example, before Brexit the British pound was worth about $1.46 US. Today the pound is worth about $1.24. If someone had booked when the rate was $1.46, they can still purchase OBC for $1.46 for one pound. You will not find any ATM that will give you that rate anymore.

For example, before Brexit the British pound was worth about $1.46 US. ..... This is correct I booked my recent summer 2016 cruise in Jan 2016 Exchange rate 1GBP= USD1.54. Bought everything I could at that rate including Excursions and OBC. Had about USD 700 left in the account when I returned. Requested it to be refunded and a cheque turned up 11 weeks after I disembarked. I did try to get a little cash from Customer Services for cash tips but they were reluctant to do this and only in small amounts. Other methods exist for getting cash out of the OBC account and involve getting a casino account and cashing out. These are detailed on this forum. Sorry thought I wrote that in post # 20, however Cheque was in GBP ie the currency of my home country and the exchange rate was the current rate at the point I asked for it, not the rate I purchased it at. You used to be able to buy Casino Credit and get cash for it but since everyone talked about that on these boards, Princess caught on and now you just get on board credit to use in the casino. WISH84 Posted November 22, 2016 #24 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Short answer. . .. no. Princess caught on and now you just get on board credit to use in the casino. Sort of like "Hey, this is how you smuggle alcohol onto the ship". I was prepared to purchase casino credits to actually use in the casino figuring if I had good luck and won (or realized I brought no luck with me and was only loosing) that I could trade the vouchers in for cash. But I think I also read I can just load my players account via a slot machine and getting that cash from my ship board account (providing my account is backed up with a credit card) Sent from my iPad using Forums
