ylvabear Posted September 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2012 We are looking at going to South Georgia and Antarctica on the MV Plancius. Does anybody have any experience of this ship? I read, for example, that it's not as good for seasickness as the Ioffe. Any reviews would be appreciated
dpro Posted September 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2012 We are looking at going to South Georgia and Antarctica on the MV Plancius. Does anybody have any experience of this ship? I read, for example, that it's not as good for seasickness as the Ioffe. Any reviews would be appreciated Haven't been on this ship, however we went on the Fram, a ship with stabilizers. It all depends on the weather, we had 50' seas and hurricane winds on part of our journey and many got seasick. Some were thrown out of the chairs at dinner, I was tossed out of the bed once, and my spouse was tossed out of her reading chair. Best advice is to just expect a rolling ship and get your seasick meds. I don't know of any ship that would not roll about in 50' seas and winds in excess of 75 mph. On the flip side, it is an absolutely stunning voyage, don't let the possibility of a little seasickness worry you. We are going back next year for our second voyage. Happy sailing. digitl Posted September 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2012 We were on the Fram and got Drake Lake: absolutely flat calm. Whichever ship you book, book an outside cabin, low down and midships. It's not a good idea to book a high deck and pay to sway...
