Global Entry at disembarkment port

Hi:

DW and I have Global Entry privileges through US Customs.

Is there any benefit when we get off a cruise ship, or is this for designated airports only?

That system isn't in place at this time at the cruise ports.

November 2015, we arrived at Port Everglades, and I was SHOCKED to see a Global Entry sign. I asked, and we were quickly routed off to the side, and cleared the terminal in minutes.

We have Nexus Cards issued in Canada but they come with Global Entry privileges.

Not every port may have it, but you never know when it might get added. Doesn't hurt to bring your cards.

We have our interviews for the Global Entry Card in April when we arrive for our TA on Eclipse.

We have read so many good things about them, can't wait to get them!!

We disembarked the Silhouette in Ft. Lauderdale on Jan 17th. They DID have Global Entry and it saved us a lot of time and a long line!

We have our interviews for the Global Entry Card in April when we arrive for our TA on Eclipse.

 

We have read so many good things about them, can't wait to get them!!

Hoping Miami gets it VERY soon! :)

Takes a few weeks to get the card after the interview. great arriving into the US, UK, Canada or Australia

Hi Jo,

Yes we have booked our appointment for the day we land and have booked it for a few hours after arriving at MIA, as we are doing a transatlantic we are happy to wait a few weeks for the card.

We applied and it is a really straight forward process, the main selling point for us was the minimising time of getting through customs. All the details we found were on the embassy website too.

Just hope the interview is straight forward and isn't going to take hours.

We had one interview with an 'officer' at the Sarnia border sign in desk who took all relevant information, pictures, fingerprints; another with a Canadian officer and then one with an American officer. A few weeks later we went to Toronto Airport for an eye scan. Some people wouldn't want that much info on record with the gov't, but our thoughts are - nothing to hide. Really was easy but a little time consuming as they were quite thorough explaining the process. It is SO worth it, bypassing long customs lines especially when coming home from Europe and several planes had arrived around the same time from overseas.

Global Entry expedites the screening and processing of low-risk, international travelers entering the United States.

Global Entry is open to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, Dutch citizens*, South Korean citizens**, Panamanian citizens and Mexican nationals. Canadian citizens and residents may enjoy Global Entry benefits through membership in the NEXUS program

Those from the UK and Germany are also eligible. Those countries plus those listed above (excluding Canada) accept Global Entry when flying into certain airports. US citizens must join Nexus to use in Canada and Canadians Nexus AND Global entry to use in the US. USA can use going into Australia as well. The interview is a yawner, but anything at all in criminal history disqualifies even if many years ago. Application fee is $100USD for 5 years. Renewal used to be $15.

CBP has been experimenting with Global Entry at Port Everglades and may or may not expand the service. When we returned to Port Everglades in early December we were able to bypass a relatively long line and get quickly cleared by a dedicated Global Entry procedure which did involve seeing a CBP officer. They did not yet have the typical Global Entry Kiosks installed...but the single officer dedicated to clearing Global Entry folks was a pretty lonely man.

Have to say a bit surprised this exists. For those that travel overseas more than once a year definitely worth it as for example cleared LAX in under 15 minutes from plane to street. Arriving in MEL in Australia got to the street in about 20 minutes compared to over 2 hours for even Aussies. You also are TSA approved and there are usually short lines on domestic flights. Saved hours of waiting!

Global Entry is real nice. It has really helped 2 times. Coming back from Australia and going through customs in LAX and making a connection to Seattle. The hardest part was finding the Global Entry line. There was no one in line. Also going through customs JFK.

I noticed the sign in FL after we had entered the regular line. I approached the agent and said we had Global Entry. She asked for our cards, which we didn't have with us. I told her we never needed them at JFK or ATL and she took pity, I guess, and let us through the GE line. Aren't the cards used for Canada and Mexico? We always had used the kiosks and never needed the cards. I don't believe my passport shows any evidence of membership.

Incidentally, it's become so popular that the lines are almost as long as the regular lines at certain times. Of course, there are other benefits.

When we went (nov 22nd) we were put in a Global Entry queue and then escorted to the next available officer. We also bypassed a huge line

I'm going through the renewal process now. I just updated my information online. It seems like I will have another interview. Time will tell.

We're a year away from renewal. I'm curious to hear how it works. The cards expire on your birthday. So my DH expires first, and then 6 months later my son expires, with my daughter and I in between. I really don't to travel back for 4 interviews of 4 months. Would be better if they expired on the anniversary of getting the card. I thought maybe it was all done on line and no interviews required :(

We had a similar experience. There was the first meeting (fingerprints etc.) then meeting with a Canadian officer, then an American one. There were 4 of us, but I think the process took closer to 90 minutes at Fort Erie. Fort Erie, also does not retina scan children. When we travelled out of Pearson months later, we got yelled at by a Nexus officer because the children were not retina scanned. On the return to Pearson we went to the Nexus office and had the children scanned. All the centers should enforce the same process.

Shhh....Before we know it the line will be longer than the regular line, just like all the special lines for check-in to the ship.;)
