Internet cafe Nassau

I don't know if they are still there, but in years past there were a few up the little alleys that run off the street that runs along the waterfront. (Woodes Rogers St.). At least one of them is up a stairway. There are signs. Ask the people in the terminal, where you enter.

I've had good luck at Starbucks, but you have to buy something.

McDonalds is free, but very poor performance.

Bob - I was just in Nassau. Went to Starbucks. I did not need to buy anything to access the internet. PS - for anyone going there, cannot use Starbucks card to purchase a drink or food item. Cash or a credit card. And if it looks crowded on the main floor just go upstairs where there is more seating.

Also, directly across the street is Hard Rock Cafe. Many people stand on the street in front of the Hard Rock and access their free internet.

Thanks for the update, they required us to buy something, but that was a while back. Good to know it's free now.

Does anyone know if there is an internet (wifi) café in Nassau? Hopefully close to the dock.

Why wouldn't you just use the internet on the ship if you are willing to go to an internet cafe and pay for it anyways? Seems like a lot of effort to save a couple dollars.

I can just picture a bunch of people standing outside Starbucks and Hard Rock leeching off the WiFi. Thousands of dollars to go on a cruise then waste all that time and effort to save $20.

The one we are aware of is behind the Greek Islands Restaurant on Bay Street. The restaurant has free Internet for customers. The Internet Cafe is used by RCI employees we know.

The Restaurant and Internet Cafe share the same stairway.

Hi

Just amazed. You've never seen this before? :D

Personally, I started doing it quite a few years ago. I was so disappointed with the poor connections on the cruise ships, I started looking at the port of calls.

Yes it may only be $20 but I would much rather be frustrated with something that's free than something I am paying for. I can't remember the last time I used a ship's internet. I would much rather give someone in Mexico a dollar an hour or buy a coffee at Starbucks, but if you think the cruise line needs your money, it's yours to give. I can think of it like...I have saved enough $20 bills to pay for a cruise. It's the same anytime people save money. They don't have to, but then they wouldn't have that money in their pocket. Some people don't need to save money and if you are one of those lucky few, then good for you.

Royals on board internet is fast enough to stream Netflix... And we do. You are also correct, I don't count $20's, and that's probably why I don't have to count $20's....

You spend thousands on a cruise. Internet is cheap, and fast now on ships. We have MUCH better things to do in port and on vacation than search out a place where we can steal internet. You don't, that's fine. You do you.

So you are one of those who is off the ship early and gets back on the ship just before "all aboard"? Good for you for maximizing your time in port. It sounds like me, but I find very few people maximize their port time (far from it). If not, you are a hypocrite.:)

I don't think you know what "hypocrite" even means.

I'd rather be on the ship, staring at my phone in the public toilet than wandering around port aimlessly looking for free internet. How ridiculous. Internet is cheap onboard nowadays. To actually put effort in to figuring out where free wifi is available is mind boggling to me. And even then, I seem to get free internet and texting and basically every port we have been to so far with my standard cell plan.

Do your flip phone even have wifi?

Hi there

As I said, I am glad you don't have to save money.

Where did you get this idea that you have to steal anything? As I said, you can find internet service, for next to nothing or free. You don't have to search them out, they are typically available right near the port areas. You just have to ask.

This site is meant to be a resource to help people with ideas that can save them time and or money. What do you use it for? There is no reason to try and belittle others just because you don't need this information.

just a matter of perspective

you keep doing you

Whether it's "stealing" or not is a technicality. I can assure you the businesses that have it available for patrons are not thrilled with people huddled outside to get their "free" internet without patronizing their establishment. It may technically be free, I guess, but only technically. They deal with people like you in hopes that a few might actually buy something, that's all.

And you may not like my advice, but it's valid. Spend the $10 - $20 or whatever and get internet on-board all day as opposed to putting in effort to wander around port. Note that the OP was asking about an internet cafe, which is not typically free. My comment was suggesting that it seems silly to get off the ship and put so much effort in to save a very, very small amount of cash at the expense of quite a bit of time and effort... and of course, the internet cafe won't give you 24 hours of service.... so whether it's even a savings or not is debatable.

Maybe my comments saved time.... but probably not money. Who are you to judge that?

Wow! I did not realize I was going to start a storm. The only time I have been on a cruise in the past was to Alaska in 2013. The onboard internet was very slow and expensive. I was directed to a small café by crew members who went there to use the free internet for the cost of a cup of coffee.

I don't think $14.95/day for a single device is all that cheap if all I want to do is check my email for 15-20 minutes every couple of days.

Which ship will you be on?

You are only in Nassau for one day. You can get internet on the ship for one day as well. Shipboard internet has generally improved quite a bit, with Royal leading the way. My point was that for $10 - $20 for a day pass, is it really worth the energy of trying to find internet on shore for the day? And at least with the day pass, you get it all day! Not for the 20 min you are standing near a curb next to a store.

And it really depends which ship. For example, Carnival has a plan that's just $5/day which gives you social media and email.

Internet onboard circa 2013 and in 2017 are TOTALLY different experiences.

I cruised in 2014, and internet was per minute onboard. Now, you can get it by the day, and it is reasonably fast.

Get it for the cruise, and you have it even on sea days. Why wait until port?

And also, depending on your carrier, you may have coverage anyway. I am with T-mobile, and in most cruise shop ports of call, I get unlimited data.

T-Mobile is great with international coverage. All over Europe, too. Unlimited data and texting.

Just about wrapping up our latest NCL Breakaway "Semi Live" Halloween cruise review with a day stop at GSC (private island) and Nassau ... where for the 2nd. time this year - our 4G/HSPA+ online data came to a whopping $2 to $3 USD, yes - not a typo.

How, we have Google's Project Fi plan using Nexus 6 and 5X, with an extra nano Sim (or, 2 or even 3, as needed) in the backup iPhone 5S (thus, iOS friendly) - used the fast connection also to do WiFi calling, and, of course, regular SMS/text messaging at no extra charges ... while we're walking around and from the comfort of our ship's balcony - on Fi's local cellular partner, BTC (it is much faster & almost LTE speed - DigiCel for the Caribbean teamed up with T-Mobile but their roaming data is slower & kept at 3G speed, if I am not mistaken. We have T-Mo lines but don't use that for our data needs.

It's far away and not quite in downtown Nassau, the new casino/hotel/resort ... Baha Mas has free & fast WiFi indoors while we visited - a $5 p/p one-way taxi ride from the cruise terminal.
