We were not charged either but we did not pre-order the boots. We just borrowed the ones already onboard.

Hmmm. Once the Cloud has done a couple of cruises, hopefully someone will report on the 'boot situation'.

It seems if rentals are available, they will not be lending them for free... otherwise people who paid $70 and a $100 deposit will complain.

One thing I don't want to have is wet feet!

EDIT: When I booked, the SS rep. recommended I take my own boots (for the fit). However, I'll be on many flights for that trip, and due to luggage weight constraints, it's not practical.

Explorer has a good selection of boots that are FREE. Most of this collection came from guests who left them on board rather than schlep them home. However SS makes a disclaimer that there are no guarantees that your size will be available. Rental is available but only for Antarctica through their outfitter who uses a contractor in Ushuaia for providing them to the ship, collecting and cleaning on return. Purchase is the most economical especially if you will do the arctic later (as we did).

Would assume that it would take Cloud several years to accumulate a decent selection of free boots.
