Accessible cabin 8092 QV

We have just been allocated to this room. Neither of us is disabled so we don't need an accessible cabin but we don't object to being in one.

My concern is location. It is just underneath the Lido. I am very sensitive to noise (a medical condition) and am worried that I will hear chairs scraping back and forward, etc. I generally do not wake up until about 11am, so that's a lot of breakfast and morning tea chairs to get through!

I am also interested in the layout of the accessible cabins, never having seen one. Any photos would be appreciated. I see we have one of those curved balconies. I've had one before in a standard cabin and loved them, but I don't know how they differ in an accessible cabin.

Any help is appreciated. We leave in less than 3 weeks, so there is not much time if I want to see about changing it.

Oops, I should have said stateroom all the way through this. I have not been politically correct. :D

My daughter and I had a similar situation. We were assigned to 7072 and neither needed nor requested a handicap stateroom.

I have some pictures of the stateroom, bathroom and balcony if you would like to see them.

Pic from the hull plans included, the first one is the stateroom showing the location of the bathroom. Ive been in these, the layout of the shower room is great with a large shower area and a grate in the floor for the water so no lip to climb over to get into it. The floor area is large and you'll revel in the space. The balcony has a little ramp onto it which takes a little room up but not a great deal.

The only noise you will hear will come from the popping of the champagne corks and clink of silver spoons from the suite next door.

As you can see directly above you is dining for the Lido restaurant. (you can link up the direct enlinement using the crease in the page if you like) The floors are heavily carpeted I doubt you will hear chairs scraping over them. The stateroom is directly under the waiters station for the plates and trays.

I think its a really good position midships, you'll have a great time.

regards Roscoe

My mother always books this room at least 3/4 times a year either on the QV or QE, surprised it wasn't booked but I imagine as QV is based in the Med disabled passengers prefer the convenience of Southampton embarkation. You will love it! No noise whatsoever from above! Lots of floor space, nice window next to bed, super balcony which has plenty of shade from the sun due to the overhang, or you can position your chairs/sun beds out to catch the rays usually late afternoon. As you are deck 8, you have the most privacy as you can look down and see everyone below you, and its only if you go out on the curve section a few balconies can see you, but its no bother at all. Lots of wardrobes, space around dressing table area and of course great bathroom, mid ship position bang next to lifts and stairs with Lido restaurant above you - great for bringing lunch down to eat on your balcony when busy around ship on sea days. You won't feel like you are in an adapted cabin at all, except there is a rather sensitive panic button on the wall behind the bed (behind pillows) which my father activated non stop for the first few days until he trained his arms to stay down! Have a fantastic time :)

Thank you so much to all of you. It's great to see plans and to hear from someone who has been in this exact room. I look forward to photos in due time.

My holiday has already been threatened by my health, after looking after a friend here from overseas who was hospitalised multiple times and had to stay at my house until we managed to get the insurance company to repatriate her with a nurse escort (just left a few hours ago). I now have to deal with exhaustion (I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and with messed-up shoulders from picking her up off the ground (bang goes months and months of massage and manipulation). I would have hated to think that early-morning noise from above would threaten my much-needed rest.

Now to get my shoulders working again so I can dance!

Two things struck me from the photos that Enigma sent me.

The first is that there is less hanging space in the accessible stateroom. The wardrobes seem to be smaller.

The second is that there is only an armchair, not a couch.

This would make me think that though the rooms are bigger, it's not actually all useable space. Compromises have had to be made. More space for the wheelchair means fewer amenities. However, that lovely big balcony will sell it for my friend, I think, even if clothes have to sit in a suitcase under the bed.

Can anyone confirm or refute these from their experience in accessible staterooms?

Just booked 8031 on QV. Do you have plans for this one Roscoe we are 3 adults in this room, princess not available, so taken next best. Is size and position ok.

Thanks

sure ..anytime., 8031 looks huge in comparison to the others in that category...I'm sure three in it will be fine. you are 8 staterooms up from the laundry...but you are 5 staterooms down from the officers staterooms, so traffic and noise shouldn't be too bad.

Directly above is the ac station..and slightly to one side as you can see are the thermal suites for the spa. Haven't personally been in that area (somewhere to tick off for the next trip) so can't comment on what equipment is in there but if it was a problem Im sure it would have been publicised.

Thanks Roscoe, brilliant, can I be naive is an AC station above you anything to worry about. Also strange that 8031 is BC grade and the exact same room directly below 7035 is a BB grade. Any thoughts, cheers Jean

I haven't been in this station Jean, so not sure what equipment is in there. The other ac rooms I've been in do not have any loud running machinery that is discernible in adjoining rooms. If this was an undesirable stateroom because of noise then we would have heard about it on here and various room review sites and I couldn't find any adverse reviews..

Exactly the same size as the room below it, the difference in category would relate to the higher position in the ship.

Enclosed is a cross-section showing your pax cabin position as shown to the right of the area marked "pool machinery" (although it's not directly beside it) and below "Pool covered Area" (although its not directly under it). Remember this is a longitudinal view and you are surrounded by other cabins and not by copious amounts of machinery, lift shafts and other undesirable spaces as it looks on first glance. I would actually consider this as a prime location, it will be quiet due to the proximity of the officers quarters, you are close to the laundrette, you have no hard surfaces from the lido pool area and scraping chairs above you, and the size of the stateroom is considerably increased with a larger balcony for the same price as others in its category. I personally would be leaping at it.

just had my tape measure out, at the rear of the stateroom and directly above is the corridor that leads down towards the Royal Spa which is tiled.

I hope you enjoy the QV and be interested to read your review and particularly your experience in the stateroom...

Thanks Roscoe, plans and photos excellent. Yes look forward to our Christmas trip on QV, only ever sailed QM before which we absolutely love but too many days for us over Xmas because I hate flying and the trip is 26 days. Also too many memories our darling mum loved that ship and we lost her 2 months ago, so needed to just get away over Christmas, jean

as you can tell, I think the QV is the best ship in the fleet, she's known as the happy ship amongst Cunard Crew for good reason. Have a fantastic memorial for your mum...

Resurrecting this thread as I have just discovered that we have been assigned QE 8092 for our upcoming 95 day World Voyage. I am surprised as I would have thought that in the 95 days, this cabin would have been needed by someone with need.

Have we struck gold, or have we ended up in a cabin with little storage and furniture, but a large bathroom and balcony? Is the "wet room" aspect going to result in our having wet feet whenever we use the bathroom? Is there any storage in the bathroom? How about for 95 days worth of clothing?

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on these questions.

We stayed in this cabin in January 2017 (southampton to FL) before the refit. My wife has a mobility scooter so we requested a disabled cabin. A really great cabin with a large balcony. The only problem we had was that the emergency button was behind the cushions and went off a few times so much so that we had to tell the pursers office to ignore it. If we had a problem we would pull the alarm cord.

How well is it appointed for non disabled?

As I mentioned I was surprised to see that this was our assignment for the World Cruise 2018.

We are not disabled and would have preferred to be in a stateroom which had more furniture in it for us to relax on.

Do you think that you find it to be comfortable were you not in need of this cabin?

I had been told about the alarm cord behind the bed. That was one of my concerns as the layout does not seem to have any other place for watching tv other than in bed.

I thank you so much.

Just had a mini cruise in this cabin Faults are 2.5 wardrobe's no sofa TV at a angle that 2 people can not see it from the bed the cabin is noisy as the entrance door needs to be refitted as there are gaps all the way round that lets in light and noise get the Steward to explain how to plug the kettle in and the ramp bar works, Good points its a Club cabin very nice ,Very handy 1 flight of stairs to the lido 2 flights to deck 10 and the outside, Very close to Commodore club and Pavilion pool Large balcony 2 reclining chairs but only 1 sunbed, Draws under the bed and under the T.V unit and on the side of the Bed and Dressing Table the cabin is about the same size as a Q3 Cabin

Thank you for your candor.

I was concerned about some of those items as well.

We are working on ameliorating our situation as this was not our dream for a cruise booked over 18 months ago. A regular Club would have been perfect as we had booked A-1.The problem is that they have oversold this cruise.

There was only Guarantee available at that time but we were certain that the situation would correct itself and we would get the A-1 Club eventually.

2.5 wardrobe not a problem for a mini cruise, but for 93 days with formal clothing demands is not going to be easy.

Thanks again.

We were supposed to board QV this morning but the voyage was cancelled so to console ourselves we have just booked this cabin (8092), can anyone provide us with more up to date photos please?

I am also interested to know how Britannia Club dining works. Do you have the same table allocated to you for the entire cruise?

I can't help with cabin photographs but yes that's how Britannia Club works. You will have an allocated table which is available anytime during opening hours.
