cabin type for Pacific Northwest cruise

Recommended Posts

In port, and as you enter and leave the ports, you'll see land - otherwise you'll be way out in the ocean where cheaper diesel can be burned and casinos can be opened, seeing diddly-squat except sea, sky, and maybe some other ships. Plus, a one-way like this means end of the season - so potentially cold and windy.

A balcony on the port side would be perhaps marginally better than one on starboard in terms of usability while at sea (most weather comes from the west, so you'd be in the lee of the wind while heading south) but we've always gone Internal on these coastal repos, a balcony just didn't seem sensible (and we then of course got upgraded to balconies because we didn't want one! So I can say that we were definitely correct - the balcony was not used by us at all, and we are very cold weather tolerant...)

Edit - you may want to be out on deck for some of the stellar scenic views near the ports, e.g. going out of Vancouver or entering San Francisco under the Golden Gate, but these are always best on a fully-open deck rather than the more limited view from a balcony anyway, especially bridges that you go under. A covered balcony totally wrecks the views of those!

I agree with everything martincath said. One added note, these cruises tend to light from a passenger perspective. If its not critical to you, there is a good chance that you can get an update close to departure for very little money. However no guarantees.

We have a starboard balcony on Navigator deck 8 Eurodam and I was told our sailing is sold out. Last payment is due 8/2 so maybe some upgrades will be available then. We are happy with the price we paid and have starboard balcony, I dont mind bundling up and sitting in some cool air as I grew up in Boston but now live in "hot as hell" southwest Florida. LOL!

Very beautiful areas you'll be cruising through on your cruise. The best sailing events (under Golden Gate bridge) you'll be up on deck it's a fabulous time. Just like any cruise it's your choice what you're comfortable in, we do interior cabins sometimes and are in one in September for a four night out of Seattle to Victoria. The ports you'll visit are really great to have a balcony view. We awoke in San Francisco to the sun rising over a foggy Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz.......that real estate is PRICELESS.
