We've been to Aruba three times now. We're not sun, sea and sand people, so we now just walk off the ship for a cocktail and a few trinkets.

But, on our first trip we hired a private guide and I told him that I wanted to "search for Natalie Holloway".

He took us to the location of the night club where she was last seen. It's now closed. The owners opened a new place around the corner with a different name. The Court House has been replaced with a new building and location. But, the police station is still the same.

When we were there we did a snorkeling excursion in the morning then went to Palm Beach in the afternoon. Excellent! Also; many people on our cruise went to the Argentinean restaurant and raved about it. If you like beef, and never had Argentinean beef, you may wanta try some!

Aruba is very beautiful. We had a longer stop in Aruba instead of the 8-5 stop. We strolled around the shopping areas, took a tour around and in the afternoon went to the Westin at Palm Beach. The tour van driver dropped is there and we got a cab back to the port in the evening. Used their beach and facilities.(it is $20 for the whole day, generally) but they did not charge us anything since we were going to be there only for about 3-4 hours). Some friends went to Eagle Beach and Baby Beach. Had dinner at a local restaurant near the port. Can't remember the name
Plenty of shops near the port. Expensive, upscale stores, jewelry stores, plus touristy things, all within walking distance of the dock.
We saw the Casibari Rock formations, the California Lighthouse and some vacation homes for the filthy rich, among other things on the tour.
Loved Aruba.
Internet cafe, phone facilities, etc are right in the port area. Rates were reasonable.

been to Aruba three times--Linns grocery store--big grocery store great for buying South American wines cheap for the rest of the cruise---gouda cheese--
waffel cookies etc. IT IS A FIVE DOLLAR TAXI RIDE FROM PIER--GET TAXI ON THE STREET outside the cruise terminal area because it is cheaper.

Hi Everyone,

If you like snorkeling I highly recommend Boca Catalina. You can take the city bus there and back (I think it was 10A). There are no services at the beach though, just sand and some shade umbrellas. It is a very nice inexpensive day and some of the best snorkeling I have found in the Caribbean. I'm usually too anxious so we take a cab there (I think it was about $23) and the city bus back. We have been there 3 times and have seen eels, turtles, octopus and tons of fish.

If you can get there a bit early it is nice because once the big tour boats start coming and dropping hundreds of people off they start scaring the turtles away!

John, I would have said the same thing. I have been against going to Aruba for the very same reason, but I guess it's time to go on. I love Barbados, so I want to go further south and one place is Aruba. I would be happy to be a beach bum there also!

That's great info Sue....we may just do that Maybe we can get a few going so we will ride together. I don't mind the city buses....that's part of the sightseeing unless we are in a hurry...which means probably a taxi there and bus back...

I thought I posted this yesterday . . . obviously I did not - so here goes.

DW and I really enjoy snorkeling and have participated in and also arranged charters for other CC Roll Calls. We are planning on setting something up - assuming there is interest - for either Aruba, Curacao or Barbados. Aruba has several good sites; Barbados has "swim with the turtles" combined with regular snorkeling; Curacao is new to me, but our port time allows for the possibility of a snorkel/sunset sail combination.

I don't enjoy the crowds typical on the ship's shorexs and so I use smaller (give or take 12-20 pax) sailing catamarans, 1/2 day (3-4 hours) charters. In every trip we have beat the ship's shorex price and had a great experience.

Obviously, it's way too early to know any details. I'm posting this on the specific subthreads and will use those threads to monitor interest. At some point in the future we'll be able to gauge the interest and get more specific.

If this interests you, please respond on the thread (or more than one) of your choice.

For those who have tablets or phones that can use aps TRVL magazine has a free downloadable Aruba issue. A few short articles, a couple of videos, and some great photos. Some points of interest either mentioned or pictured were Palm Island, Baby beach, Eagle beach, Conchi, and Palm beach. Just a heads up for those who might want to take a look.

If you are interested in Boca Catalina, we should plan to taxi over there together. I think I remember that Aruba Taxis limit to 4 people. We try to taxi over and go early so we beat the crowds. The last time we were there we saw turtles and lots of cool fish, but once all the boats start stopping and tons of people splashing around the turtles took off.

The bus back works well from there as you don't have to decide on a pick up time in advance. Whenever you are ready to go you just lay on the beach and watch for the bus to come buy going the wrong way. By the time you get ready and get up to the stop, it has gone to the end of the loop and come back. So it is great.

I'm so excited for Aruba again. We just had the jewelry we bought there last time appraised and confirmed we did get a good deal! Yeah! Now, it is time to convince my husband that on our next trip I need more!

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been on cruisecritic much lately. They had lots of stuff. I ended up with a ring and matching pendent that is blue diamonds and real diamonds. We were at Kay's (which isn't related to the Kay's jewelry store in the US, but was one of the Cruise Ship approved stores). There seemed to be lots of colored stones done there, all very pretty!

Kay's comes highly recommended from many many cruisers. We met people who sent us there and they gave us excellent service and great discounts on prices. Their price was $200 less than what Diamonds International was giving me with all the VIP discount bs they do! Ask for Tesh. I had researched the item a lot and here and in the caribbean, and I found that Kay's prices were the best. They have a store in St Martin at the port, and that one comes very highly recommended too. Ask for Sam or Debbie at the port store.

We visited Aruba two years ago on Coral Princess

We caught cheap taxi from the port to palm beach for a swim in the pristine waters .

Later we returned too the port and did the Aruba-Helicopter flight of the island 30 mins aprox $110 ,well worth the money.

Video of same tour

We visited Aruba two years ago on Coral Princess

We caught cheap taxi from the port to palm beach for a swim in the pristine waters .

Later we returned too the port and did the Aruba-Helicopter flight of the island 30 mins aprox $110 ,well worth the money.
