Cassarina, I have a friend whose husband is on Warfarin and did obtain travel insurance. I will ask her and get back to you if no-one else can give you an answer today. Meanwhile, this may be of some help. It is not only for seniors.

Try this too, although I haven't used this one.

All Travel Insurers will cover you for a pre existing condition.

I guess thats what you are asking about?

However some will charge an extra premium, some wont. They all seem to have a different interpretation of what a pre existing condition is.

With some, if your condition is under control with medication and you have had no problems in the last, lets say 6 months, they do not worry. Others will have limitations.

All you can really do is just check each one out and get quotes from several, stating the pre existing condition and see how they check out.....

being sure to check the small print.

I believe Medicare covers aussies in NZ, for the land part of your trip. Don't know if this helps, but of course the ship is different.

Jen

Thank you for that I will check with medicare

Hi

I checked the Medicare Web Site and you are covered for Public Hospital Care but must pay for perscriptions and out patients.

I use Southern Cross Travel Insurance...you can get coverage for existing conditions or you can cover yourself for anything other than an existing condition. They are very reasonable and available over the net.

Cassarina, sorry I got it wrong. My friend got quotes but didn't go any further as her husband got very ill - they had to cancel their cruise.

When he was better they flew to Norfolk Island and she said they risked it - didn't bother with insurance because it was too complicated and expensive. BUT his is an extreme case, so do try several places for quotes. Good luck.

(By the way they had a great time and nothing happened, so all is well, but I don't think I would have risked it.)

Not sure of your age / your husbands age, but if over 50, you may have some luck with Apia. Alternatively, I would suggest contacting Vero or AAAI for quotes.

Depending on your age, the quote can triple.

Congratulations Les.

Great news.

Thanks David, maybe they monitor CC. They had to send my file to their medical section with my GP and Specialists reports, hence the delay.

Now ! I can go plan another CRUISE, maybe September/October this year, Eastern Med/Adriatic for a start, if my gut settles down.

Time for a celebration, Cider please (no more beer for me)

Very happy for you Les. All good things come to those who wait...but 3 months is a bit too long to wait.

Thanks Anna/Liz and Co. Thanks for all your support after I failed to make Star Princess with you. I hope I have turned the corner in the past few weeks - look at my signature. Reinvested our insurance payout with Princess.

In the blood this cruising - yes I took out travel insurance again and declared my condition.

Good luck to you all. Until we meet !

Good one Les.

A great combo, The Med, Repo Atlantic crossing , and Panama canal thrown in for good measure.

Way to go..:):)

  • 7 months later...

We are cruising on the Regatta in March to the islands and Oz. My heart flutters are under control and on warfarin but not one insurance company in New Zealand would cover me for it. Scared I would have a heart attack or a stroke. We will just have to risk it. Covered for everything else but. We would like to join some CC friends on another cruise but a bit frightening if I cannot get coverage if we go further afield. Is there an insurance company in Australia or worldwide which would cover for this condition?

NWSP is on the money with Mondial. They come in many names as he says. We had to cancel a cruise 18 months ago because of a sudden illness with my wife requiring urgent surgery but a Mondial subsidiary tried to refuse the claim on the grounds of a "pre-existing condition" despite a comprehensive letter from her specialist surgeon to the contrary. They procrastinated for 6 months until I threatened to take the matter to the Financial Services Ombudsman and they grudgingly backed down and paid up.

Also be wary of southern cross, they took 2 and a half months to settle my claim for cancellation cover when I had to cancel a trip due to breast cancer. They tried to say it was pre-existing.

Someone has said all companies will cover pre-exisiting conditions often with an extra fee and sometime without. Not all pre-existing conditions can be covered, depends on the condition and treatment etc.

My advise is read the fine print over and over and over.
